More Problems with Gateway Center

Will it ever end? Yet another Gateway problem rears its head.

Anh Voang owns the Harbor Towne Mall on Lincoln Street adjacent to the Gateway construction. She will probably need to be paid additional compensation for her property because of her economic losses caused by the construction.

She said: “I still own all property; I pay taxes and mortgage all that time. I've been offered below market price; my mall has diminished in value; I have lost tenants and income.”

Obviously Gateway Center is a done deal and there’s no turning the clock back. But maybe, just maybe, we could learn something for future decisions — No more massive construction projects that nobody wants. The only thing they accomplish is to jeopardize existing businesses, drain the treasury and make funding unavailable for the things people DO want — a swimming pool, art displays, parks…

Oh, she owns China First, too. Considering that'sone of the sources of drug dealing in this town, she should taking a kick-back from some of the drug lords who hang out there.

I can't feel the least bit sorry for her.

There are always at least two sides to any story so don't jump to ignorant conclusions before you know the facts.

anon @ 9:12 pm 11/01 -- yes, maybe there really are people in Port Angeles who think the Gateway project is just fantastic, and public parks and a swimming pool are a waste of money. I doubt it though.

Well, whenever the Gateway place gets open, ask the homeless people that will be "residing" there if they think it was money well spent. I'll bet they say "Yes!"

lol - instead of berating Gateway as a "$14 million bus stop" it's really a $14 million homeless shelter.

Ya, jus watch...I'll bet when (if) it ever opens, you'll be able to find at least a half dozen homeless sackin' out there on any given day....
'Specially that short stinky wild-gray-hair-and-beard guy who walks around town with one eye closed!

I haven't yet talked to anyone who is the least bit happy about the new "transient center". What a waste of money.

blame Czar Cutler....he's the one who had the beetle in his butt to get it done AT ALL COSTS.
...Why would this city allow ONE man (with such a big ego) control so much of the city? He's Mr. Public Works. We USED to have several city heads, but somehow he loped off all of them, and has become the main city beast.
But, heck, city residents don't seem to care....do they?

Has anybody seen all the water in it the International Gateway Multi-Modal Transportation Center?
What's up with that? Since the intention and justification for spending so much money on the building was so that it would be used by multiple groups. I see the future pool, I see a bath house that would give any in San Francisco a run for it's money, I see a hydroponic farm, a skating rink, a duck pond, a doggie wash......

As to the Harbor Towne Mall, it might be worth alittle more than what the City says it's worth, but not much more. The basement floor has been flooding for years in the winter and it has always been vacant. The Gateway Project didn't cause that. They should have torn it down when putting in the Gateway.

when are we going to ask for the head of public works..mr. gateway himself, to quit? Businesses are hurting the gateway has "personally" put under several businesses...and the bridges/flagmen/downtown sewer nonsense last winter has weakened a number of others, meanwhile, out of the blue they close down several streets this week...for what? The pavement was fine!!! Now the gateway is delayed due to...CRACKS, and its full of water!
What in the hell....maybe we can find some public works head honcho who has a clue, and listens to what people and businesses in the area WANT.
The city is driving OUT businesses and wrecking lives.

Port Angeles will never be nothing other than a gateway to Victoria. So maybe Victoria should have paid for the homeless shelter?

The problem started with Albertson's and the improper way it was leveled and drained. There's an underground current that leads right down to the Gateway site and the Harbor Towne Mall. To correct this problem will take more money than you can imagine. Eventually, though, the Gateway, the Harbor Towne Mall and that section of town will either sink into the fill or wash out to sea!
