The Farmers’ Market

OK, Port Angelinos — ARE YOU READY?!? Mark your calendars for this coming Saturday, April 21st. The Farmers’ Market will be returning to downtown Port Angeles — for this one Saturday only. They’ll be in the parking lot at First and North Laurel, next to The Toggery; across the street from the fountain. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Details here.

And that’s not all. Along with the Farmers’ Market there'll be an Earth Day celebration and live music. Don't miss it.

Downtown rocks!

UPDATE:

Today’s Peninsula Daily News has an interesting article about the Port Townsend Farmers Market. For some reason this article doesn’t appear in the printed version of the paper; it’s online only. Here’s the link.

The Port Townsend Farmers Market’s website is very detailed and might have some helpful information that we can use here in Port Angeles. Here's their site.

UPDATE:

Today's Peninsula Daily News has an article about tomorrow's Farmers Market/Earth Day celebration in downtown Port Angeles. Here's the link.

See y'all tomorrow in beautiful downtown Port Angeles.

It was great having the Farmers Market back downtown on a Saturday. People were shopping and strolling everywhere. Downtown was ALIVE.

Looking forward to having the Farmers Market return to downtown Port Angeles every Wednesday, starting this June.

Yes!! Bringing the Farmers Market back downtown will be just what Port Angeles needs. Downtown merchants were doing much better before the market got driven out of town, and they'll be doing better again when the market returns. Remember, it will be in town every Wednesday starting in June.

Right on! Downtown P.A. is making a comeback.

Has anybody seen the online survey in today's Peninsula Daily News? "Do you prefer a farmers market or a supermarket?"

So far 54% prefer a farmers market, 31% supermarket and the rest are "no preference" or "other."

That sends a clear message: build it and they will come. When the farmers market returns to downtown Port Angeles, shoppers will come back.

Oh, I'm so glad the Farmers' Market is coming back to Downtown. I go to it every week, and having it brighten up Downtown can only bring people in. Yay! Once they're downtown, they'll shop, have lunch -- it helps everybody!!!

Do you know who the musicians will be, or any details about the Earth Day event? The PDN listing wasn't very specific.

That's a great website the Port Townsend farmers market has. Lots of information, very organized. Maybe the Port Angeles farmers market should have a website too. It would help them to organize and promote themselves and get more customers.

Hope everybody will come to the Farmers' Market on Saturday downtown, and show support for the market being back downtown where it belongs!

Their stuff is so expensive. I'm sure it's good but why does it have to cost so much to eat healthy.

Zeke, it's true you'll pay a little more at the Farmers' Market, but you'll get food that is not only organic and healthy, but sustainably raised by local folks who mostly do it as a "labor of love." They barely make a living, and count on people being willing to pay a bit more to get a LOT more. If you buy strawberries at Safeway right now, you'll pay a pretty low price but the berries will be of low quality -- they're out of season, grown in forcing beds, and they've probably traveled from Chile or Peru. You're much better off buying local stuff that's grown here, in season, by people who CARE.

Sorry for the sermon -- but please come tomorrow and see what they've got.

I checked it out this morning. A lot of people, a lot of vendors, the music rocked. Well, not literally, since they were a country band. But they were great. The whole event rocked.
