Capital Punishment in Washington?

I had no idea Washington had capital punishment until I saw this story in today’s PDN.

Darold Ray Stenson, formerly of Sequim, was convicted in 1994 of two murders the previous year. He’s scheduled to be executed on December 3rd at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.

I’m liberal on most issues but I’m in favor of capital punishment. I hadn’t heard of this case before; I didn’t move to this area until September of 2004. I just assumed that there wouldn’t be a death penalty in a liberal state like Washington.

Wait...Washington is a LIBERAL state?
Since when?
Seems like more of a police state to me. The border patrol wouldn't even THINK to fool around with some other western states, but it's a-ok up here. And, whats up with the troopers trying to balance Gregoire's budget by writing tickets for 4 miles over the speed limit and making elaborate speed traps?
And, who's been stopped in Port Angeles by an officer just to "see how you are doing" and some minor thing (your license plate need to be ON the bumper, not in the window....does your defroster work....your left turn signal bulb is dim). Meanwhile, they snoop around to see what they might see that IS probable cause.
Plus...whats the deal with our judges not having to disclose where their campaign funds come from?
This isn't a liberal state...where are you from?

Capital punishment should me used more, and years and years of appeals should not be happening. If they have done a heinous crime, they should pay with their life. Might make some of them think twice before doing stuff if they know they are not going to get to spend life in prison with 3 squares a day, free health care, TV, gym and other "amenities".

I think the lack of capital punishment being carried out is why the prisons are overflowing with people. Lots of people get out of prison and do something wrong just to get back in and be "taken care of".

I'm afraid that the years and years of appeals are to keep innocent people from being railroaded into the death sentence. The prisons are overloaded because a.) drug offenses, even minor are enforced -- if one is a minority or poor b.) our educational system sucks monkey bananas. If you can't get a job -- because you can't read -- you do crime. We've lost all our factory and manufacturing jobs...so the poorly skilled... have crime as a career prospect, and c.) we have kids pumping out kids because some whacko church concepts that abortion is bad, and babies are so darn precious. Maybe if the focus was on GOOD PARENTS before babies...we'd have some quality of life for those poor things.
Get off your Rush Limbo parrot talk. Think for yourself...

MINOR drug offenses? You gotta be kidding me....
Any drug offense is worthy of prison time, don't you know what drugs do to families...I know, you are gonna say alcohol is legal, but don't go there...we don't need drugs ON TOP of it.
Do YOU NEED marijuana? Coke? Meth?I don't...and most people don't. Get a frickin' job...and you won't have the time or energy to do drugs or alcohol...there are plenty of jobs advertised, don't hand me this "no jobs" crap.
Abortion? I have mixed feelings, cause mostly liberals get abortions anyway...in a few generations, no more liberals!
If you are a hard-working individual who pays taxes, maybe you oughta try listening to Rush, you would probably agree with 90% of what he says! I used to dislike him too, until I started listening! Boy, have I woken up...I shudder and regret to think of all the bad things I used to say about that good man!

The words liberal and conservative are interesting. Like being in a house of mirrors that warp things.

Well, that pretty much explains our government, the house of mirrors.

Anyway, I approve of capital punishment. And driving about half of the stupid officials out of town.

Good old country boys and gals could do a better job of running this area.

But we have been invaded by the capitalist terrorists.

No one minds a little socialism, as long as it's pointed their way.

BBC: Small world. I didn't know you lived around here. I've seen your comments at American Hillbilly and Cruel Virgin. I guess I never followed the links back to your blog.

Tom, I moved here after a dream just over ten years ago. But I didn't mean for my comment to show a link to my blog because we often reveal things on our blogs that we don't show others in public.

I just had a brain fart and forgot to switch to Anonymous. Anyway, there are things in this town that bother me a lot.

But there are things all over the world that bother me. I've become very complex since moving here and it's a pain in the butt. Bill
