Moving Forward with Smart Meter Installation
City Council members have already had their smart meters installed. And next week about fifty staff members will get them.
On June 6th the general public will start receiving them. In the first phase, the I Street neighborhood will receive 1,000 of the new water and electrical meters. All 19,000 of the new meters are expected to be installed by sometime in January.

Now all you have to do is figure out how to block or scramble the signals to get lower readings. :-)
Yeah, they are "smart" alright. Google other community's experiences with them before you break out the party favors.
This town continues to suck, big time.

What sucks about being able to figure out how to get lower rates? :/)
After reading more about what this system entails, it appears that a motivation to adopt such a sophisticated and costly system may have been to put even more money in the pockets of CPI --- a company, like Exelteck, that has close ties to a certain former councilwoman. Guess what company has the contract to install and operate all the wireless data-gathering listening-posts and infrastucture?

And ??
"Guess what company has the contract to install and operate all the wireless data-gathering listening-posts and infrastucture?"
Gee-willickers, I can't imagine. And I really thought and thought and thought about it, too.
I hope you'll come back and say exactly who this city councilwoman is (Cherie Kidd?)and which company this is - because I really have no idea!

What part of "former councilwoman" don't you understand? Cherie Kidd is currently on the council.
Gee-Willikers. They sure do grows 'em smart here in Port Angeles.
"Cherie Kidd is currently on the council."
Really? She is? Gosh, you coulda fooled me!
Gimme a K
Gimme an A
Gimme an R
.......
I know, right? Competition was tough between CPI, Sassy Kat and Steppin' Out Salon. I'm disappointed Steppin' Out didn't get the bid!
Seriously, how many companies in Port Angeles handle stuff like that? All we have is hair dressers up here.

Yep, this city continues to suck, big time!
Pick an issue, any issue, and pretty much every time, if there is a way to corrupt it, screw it up, or turn it into an embarrassment, that is how it will turn out.
They changed out the meters back in 1999. They came into the back yard from the alley. Some goon banged on the back door and before I could get up from my computer and answer the door, they pulled the meter and slammed in a new one, trashing a half-a-days work. What a bunch of clowns.
Big Brother is watching YOU
Trust me, the sole purpose of this is to raise your power bill.
Bonneville power will be charging the city a peak demand rate (i.e. 7am to 5pm) if you shower, wash clothes, run your dishwasher, use electricity during this time your bill will go up.
The city will tell you to do these things at night, but we know that's not realistic.
BE PREPARED, YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST, THIS IS NO JOKE......
Hmmm...
So - what about families with small children who are cared-for at home or in home-based day care centers? What about senior citizens who might want to stay warm during the day or heat up a pot of soup for lunch? It sounds like discouraging electric use during the day might work better for people who spend their days away from home. The high rates will disproportionately hit those who work at home businesses and those who do not work outside the home at all. This seems cold-hearted and unfair.
Quit complaining, if you can't afford to pay an extra 15$ in utilities, than you shouldn't own a house.
Yeah its harsh, and yeah its our damn power plant trying to suck more money out of everybody. With all the damn tax increases that the one and only Gregoire implemented, they should be increasing power costs.
Do the math, if taxes go up, prices go up... THINK before you VOTE
Amen Capitalist,
Think before you vote
Stop listening to those who say they are going to give you something free, when they can't.
nothing is free, not medical insurance, not social security, not the roads, public education, nothing but listening to the radio.
Get real!
"Quit complaining, if you can't afford to pay an extra 15$ in utilities, than you shouldn't own a house."
Maybe you saw the clip on this evening's national news. The guy who bought a home 8 months ago in a cul-de-sac of cookie cutter houses for $140k? And now the house across the street, identical to his, is up for sale with an asking price of $39k?
Oh, yeah, it sure is all great, and getting better.
I wonder whether it will be "only" another $15 in utilities after the new metering system begins? Even if bills increase by "only" that much, it will cause hardship for many in town. People who own homes may be unable to sell their homes because of the poor economy, nor can they afford to continue living in them. Sad to say, but many here are in desperate economic circumstances.
It's too bad that some capitalists who can apparently afford an extra $15 a month in utilities have so much arrogance and so little empathy for people who are less fortunate.
Dear smug selfish capitalist:
renters pay utility bills, too. Rare is the rental that includes utilities in the base rent. So - where are people supposed to live? On the streets? Maybe in your boat or motor home or cabin at the lake?
Like I said, keep complaining. THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE.
Taxes go up, everything else goes up...
I said it was harsh, and yes renter's payments will go up as well, but even with a 30$ increase (which would be enormous) that would only be an extra 360$ a year...
Maybe Obama can pay the difference...
One last time, think before you vote.
Pathetic that capitalist tries to blame President Obama for the city's decision to gouge the utility rate payers. I do agree, though, that it will be important to vote the bums out of city hall who are beind this. Let's start with ousting Don Perry and work toward electing a city council that will purge the utility and public works departments of hold-overs from the Karen & Larry days.
I'm not exactly, blaming Obama. But whether the taxes were federal or state. They were BOTH implemented by the one and only.... liberals.
