(Quite an article in today's PDN on-line about McIntire urging quick removal of Lincoln Park trees.)

Do you suppose that living at sea level for so long while in the Coast Guard caused him to fear tall land-based objects?

Can't they just top the trees? Not that I care if the rich can fly in here with their fancy planes, it's not like they are bringing us a lot of money and great family wage jobs.

It's just a game they play.

Port of Port Angeles Commissioner Jim McEntire urged cutting trees in Lincoln Park soon because of the possibility of the William R. Fairchild International Airport losing grant funding due to a decline in the use of Kenmore Air’s passenger service.

Oh get real, it can't cost Kenmore Air that much more in fuel because of a few trees, fewer working folks are flying because they simply can't afford to, the rich want those trees removed so they don't have to worry about their pretty planes smacking into one of them.

Hehehehe, deleted some of my comments.

I see that your comments are working again, blogger hasn't fixed everything yet, many of us are still out of service.

I contend that the rich are coming here to set up some businesses because they can find cheaper labor and rents here, and get concessions out of the city and county and port when they are pitching put a business here. While the jobs may help the local economy some I think they are removing too much of the profits from this area.

Like when Westport came here with their sales pitch, they bragged that they would be paying ‘living family wage’ jobs. Pffff. I believe that a family living wage now is at about thirty bucks an hour and I don’t’ think they are paying most employees near that figure. I have a love/hate relationship with unions – but – unionize Westport !!!

And I’m getting to where I really hate the rich and them taking our country away from us, they get too much of the cake in this country and are really messing it up for the rest of us. If the rich want a better airport we shouldn’t have to help pay for it, they can damn well pay for it.

Let's see, that toxic land had been sitting for 14 years. A handful of people after two years of meetings and at the suggestion of the Dept of Ecology take action to try and clean it up.

Another small group of people sabotage the efforts from the beginning and are truly the ones at fault for all the money being spent going down the tubes.

Sorry, I will take "pro-active, lets do something about this mess" group any time.

"Let's see, that toxic land had been sitting for 14 years. A handful of people after two years of meetings and at the suggestion of the Dept of Ecology take action to try and clean it up."

I'm going to assume you are talking about the Rayonier property, and HarborWorks. Clearly, you are either mis-informed, or are trying to mis-inform.

The clean-up has been proceeding since the mill closed. The studies to determine what is where, and what needs to be cleaned up, to what degree have never stopped. The process continues to this day.

A small group in Port Angeles decided in secret meetings to form a PDA, a Public Development Authority. The studies THEY did were to find developers interested in building on the property.

After over a million dollars of taxpayers money, even the Exec. Director of the PDA told the public there was no interest by developers in the property. The property owners, who have their own in-house property development company, cut off negotiations with this small group, saying they were un-professional.

And, in that same document, the property owners point out that the PDA did not want to purchase the entire property. They wanted the most developable pieces, and thought it reasonable that the property owner be left with what ever parts they didn't want.

Anonymous 3:24 also says: "Another small group of people sabotage the efforts from the beginning and are truly the ones at fault for all the money being spent going down the tubes."

Really? That isn't what Rayonier said. Rayonier, the owner of the property, and other party to the negotiations, wrote of their views and reasons for cutting off negotiations with HarborWorks, and blame the "un-professional" actions of the PDA. No one else.

I guess that letter will be in circulation again in this up-coming election campaign, if the candidate and his supporters are going to embark on mis-representations as posted above by Anon 3:34.

Unlike some local "republicans" I trust private ownership more than government meddling. Harborworks sounded like a fantasy to me. Develop that large an area? Put a high end car dealership on it? Why not turn it into a refuge for elves and fairies? Don't you think the PRIVATE owner of the land, the one who has a developer branch, would have thought about that? If "republicans" had their way billions of taxpayer dollars would have been wasted, the owner would have had its land seized and the land would have sat there empty for another couple decades because no one except Walmart is building here, and they already have a large store.

Let the owner of the land pay for cleaning it up like they've been doing not us. They're slow but with the economy in Port Angeles what's the hurry? We can't even fill up the land we've got.

" If "republicans" had their way billions of taxpayer dollars would have been wasted, the owner would have had its land seized... "

Wasn't Jim McEntire, Republican candidate for County Commissioner, a whole hearted supporter of these efforts? Wasn't he part of the secret dealings to create HarborWorks?

Isn't Jim McEntire a wholehearted supporter of the current efforts to prevent the private property owner (Rayonier)from doing what they want with their own property, which includes cleaning it up to the "highest standards", and not developing it?

Wasn't Jim McEntire a supporter of the Port's efforts recently to go to Olympia to lobby the Governor to intervene, so somehow Rayonier would be forced to develop it's property, against it's will?

Aren't the "due diligence" studies that show no developer interest in the property, publicly available?

And, other than wasting millions on HarborWorks, what has he done to fill up all the empty, existing commercial and retail spaces in Port Angeles? More businesses seem to close and leave each week. What has he done to help local businesses survive, and stay here?

If he is all about "fiscal responsibility" and "jobs", then why has he been wasting so much staff time and public money on a highly speculative, highly improbably effort,(HarborWorks/Rayonier) instead of working to keep existing businesses here, and keeping those jobs going?

The local Republicans talk a good line when it doesn't matter. All about "private property rights" and "jobs". But when it comes to actually taking action?

You just do a little bit of research, and find out for yourself. The questions concerning the creation of HarborWorks are well documented. And, how the public was only told, AFTER it was formed.

And, what is with the "Comrade" crap? Step away from the booze, sober up, and communicate like a regular person!

"Your post is the typical inane drivel of the looney left." Hunh? The post you seem to be replying to is loaded with specifics. Asks relevant questions. Or, do you think the public should NOT ask questions of their public representatives?

So, the Conservative/Republican position is that it is "looney", and "leftist crap" to think a public official should be focussed on helping local businesses succeed, and that their priority should be to preserve existing jobs, instead of wasting taxpayer money trying to take private property for unlikely schemes?

I'll remember that, this fall.

Uh huh.

In other words, Comrade, you don't have any proff of "secret dealings" in the creation of Harbor Works, you're just spouting the talking points of local crackpot leftists.

BTW, the first thing you learn in "Marxist Theory 101" is that private ownership is theft. I'm surprised you have forgotten that given your passionate support of private property. Perhaps, Comrade, you were out burning your draft card or your bra or both the day that lecture was being given.

Please don't take yourself so seriously. I certainly don't.

You know nothing of my political beliefs. I'm a member of the local business community, employing others. I'm appalled that our local "Republican" leadership talk a good line, but hang us out to dry while wasting our tax money on failed projects to lure other businesses here!

And you? As always, you offer nothing but attempted insults. You're not worth the effort to converse with. The is never any conversation, you just throw what you think are insults. SO boring. Oh, and learn to spell. Your comments are ignorant as stated, but the poor spelling underscores your obvious ignorance.

As usual, the local brigade of the People's Soviet huffs and puffs about "secret dealings" and "behind-closed-doors meetings" and other rubbish but when they're asked for a shred, an iota of proof answer comes there none.

So you have no proof, so shut up.

As for my spelling error ... touche, Comrade. I had to correct one your spelling mistakes, so we're even.

Republicans and Conservatives talk a good line when it doesn't matter, except to to mis-inform when it is election time.

Let's remember this last election, when the Republicans and their Tea Party friends railed on and on about the national debt. They promised not to compromise, nor to raise the debt ceiling.

Once people believed their rhetoric, and voted them into office, what happened? These days, you can barely tell the Democratic and Republican budget proposals apart.

Jim McEntire campaigned on fiscal responsibility, but squandered taxpayers money on highly speculative schemes that failed.

With this Falls' election campaigns ahead, I think Americans will be interested in accountability. Of course the knee-jerk rhetoric will abound, but the actual actions of candidates will also be there for all to see.

Count on it.

I suspect that the person who is always demanding "proof" is well aware that the "proof" exists and can only resort to taunting and baiting and bullying and accusing others who, for legitimate reasons of their own, are too mature to waste their time rising to such bait. "The best defense is a good offense" is the proof-demander's credo. Sounds a lot like some former city officials. Bullying, blustering, distracting people from their own misdeeds by bullying and accusing others.

I think it is more interesting to look at all the other points in those posts this person did NOT respond to. By their logic of demanded response or else, they all must be true!
