McCrorie Home Furnishings Closing
After 53 years in downtown Port Angeles, McCrorie Home Furnishings will close. Bob McCrorie, the owner, is retiring and plans to close the store rather than sell it.
There will be a liquidation sale beginning at noon this Friday.

I guess the folks at Bargain Furniture Warehouse won't be shedding any tears.
Good luck renting that monstrous space out. Another longterm empty building in the downtown core ... how many does that make now. Three, four, five?

I wonder how much the decline in business and profits may have influenced the decision to retire? I applaud Bob for the positive spin he's put on the reason for going out of business.

The eastern side of downtown is becoming one big vacant storefront.
The old Salvation Army building seems stuck in limbo (aside from Tiger Lily's disastrous move from Laurel Street into that black hole), McCrorie's will be empty forever and soon the Country Aire building will be vacant.
Can't wait for that esplanade to bring the tourists into to downtown!

Obviously, this is a time of growth and opportunity for businesses in Port Angeles.
Isn't that why all these storefronts are empty, and staying empty?
What we really need is another parking garage downtown instead of another empty furniture store building. Tear it down and build a nice parking structure with tennis courts on top.
Which storefronts are staying empty? Konp is filled, the blue dolphin is getting something in, so's the art store and the art gallery, Gottschalks is getting Country Aire eventually but in the meantime there's construction on it. Laurel street's full again. Yeah the Tiger Lily store is empty wow. I'm just getting tired of hearing how Port Angeles is "half empty" from people who obviously have no idea what they're talking about. The old Country Aire can be split into two if need be which is a lot easier to fill than Gottschalks. It's not all doom and gloom, just a little bit lol.

Well, you can put your money into Port Angeles, if you want to. I sure will not.
Yep, everything is all happy here in Happy Angeles. However, there will be two large vacant buildings downtown. Add that to the mess o'junque shops.
No shop owner can live very long on the lack of tourists, the greedy landlords, the lack of parking, and the ill-timed city projects.
Look at all the vacant houses in town (foreclosures and homes that people walked away from when they couldn't sell). This town is far from vibrant, and the worst is yet to come. Meanwhile, yeah, we'll have a big project on the waterfront to look just as out-of-place and foreboding as the Gateway monstrosity.

Yes, but look at all the grant money being spent! What would this town look like if the government wasn't throwing millions in grant money at it?
Is this the type of thing the "cut the government spending" folks are calling for? It is all your tax money, after all.
please, stop spending my tax money giving it to stupid city governments who keep making faux improvements, with not real eye to creating jobs, or some attraction to this god-forsaken outpost of a little town. The waterfront walk does nothing for the local economy.
