Possible Elimination of Weekend Snow Plowing
Local budget cuts might eliminate snow plowing on weekends and holidays in Clallam County. County Engineer Ross Tyler said the fiscal crisis will force his department to cut overtime costs. Plowing, sanding and debris removal would be consolidated to weekdays only.

How sad. More of our nice services being cut.
But, we can afford to keep the road to Hurricane Ridge open all year 'round. For how many people?
The unions were really, really, REALLY stupid on this one. (And mind you, I'm not one of those anti-union types.) They wouldn't compromise, wouldn't listen to the actual facts of the matter, and just said "NO!" It was like a little child throwing a tantrum. Only now, some of those ill-mannered children are gonna have their jobs cut (bye-bye roads crew!) and will doubtlessly whine loudly about that.
Get real, people. The economy is in the toilet. Things aren't the way they used to be. If you're not willing to even consider the possibilty of bending, then you're just setting yourself up to lose more than if you'd participated in the bargaining process.
Or put another way: DUH!
Get used to this. As you might be noticing in the "National news", the Federal government is talking about continuing budget cuts for the next TEN years.
So, next year, will it be NO snow clearing budget? The year after that, NO road repairs at all. The year after that...
Well, you get the picture.
Like 9:58 AM said, the money will be found to keep the road to the ridge open for a few. If it was a money maker up there it seems to me that we wouldn't have to help pay for it.
Oh hell, I don't care if they don't plow on the weekends, it's not like there is any place important I need to be on any given day.
I grew up mostly in Northern Idaho, and spent a good share of my adult life in real snow country where the roads seldom got plowed and we all still managed to get from point A to point B.
Conclusion: Americans are sure becoming a bunch of pussies. Chain up, go to work, stop your goddamn whining.
In other news, 36 Border Patrol officiers stationed in the Port Angeles area did absolutely no work what so ever.
why can't we get some snow plows affixed to the border patrol vehicles? They are always zooming all over hell and back. Let them salt and ice the road, and might as well put them to work cutting weeds in the summer. They're public servant, even if they think they're not.
