Possible Law and Justice Sales Tax Increase
The three county commissioners are considering whether to ask voters to approve a one tenth of one percent sales tax. This tax would support law and justice services.
County Administrator Jim Jones said the juvenile services department is losing money; costs are rising at three times the inflation rate.

property tax for civic field, property tax to support the hospital, sales tax for roads...now this.
government get your hand out of my pocket. I can't afford it anymore.
Move to Iraq. No government there!
The more you give them the more they want, they can just work for less, or for free to help the kids. Or just take switches to the kids, they get away with too much anymore.
It never hurt me to get my ass switched some. I don't approve of supporting this stupid justice system anymore.
When the obviously guilty can plead innocent and waste a lot of the taxpayers money that just isn't right.
A lot of those cases should just go before a judge, not a jury.
Hey, annon 2:21, how do you know? You been there? Seems that OUR government is the government there, and we're doing a piss poor job there, too.
You are so smug. You must be a renter and unemployed.
Hey Anonymous @ you must be a 'bagger that thinks socialism is bad 29 days a month.
Grow a brain.
I don't mind paying reasonable taxes to get needed services. I don't have time to change the light bulbs on street lights, and patch potholes in the roads. BUT, I do object to huge amounts of our tax money that gets wasted here, and abroad, to line the pockets of the "importantly placed".
Here, the biggest waste appears to be Glenn Cutlers' sewer overflow project, which the PDN had an article about a few days ago. $40 million and climbing!
Think of all the things that could be done, all the taxes that would not have to be raised or new ones proposed, if this huge amount of money was not being wasted on this clearly stupid project.

You hit the nail on the head. Why would we spend $40 million to keep our storm drains from overflowing once or twice a year when other cities don't have to, and Victoria is pumping pure waste into the straits everyday.
WASTE, WASTE, WASTE,
U.S.A. - love it or leave it!
U.S.A. Bag it and tag it, it's been long dead and gone.
Morroons
Isn't the storm drain thing a state mandated thing? I'm not against improving things but think a hell of a lot of money is wasted on things when they could be done cheaper.
I think Canadians are more liberal than here and don't really give a shit if the oceans are ruined because they are shitting in it.
Seven billion monkeys shitting on this planet is pretty damn hard on it.
Even more reason to shop else where, like online and Silverdale.
They need to learn they can't have every last little thing they want.
Piss on 'em.
So. Just Letters, No Filters was some elaborate 'experiment' to irritate a former council member that no longer lives in Port Angeles? And now the person has deleted all the previous posts and says goodbye?
Seems a little bit petty. Especially since the site was a pretty good idea.
What am I saying? It's Port Angeles. Of course it's petty.
Shakin' my damn head.
I'm going to BET that the letters forum learned the hard way that you can't let people say what they want in this climate, in this town, and with the petty people who THINK they are "in power" here.
I'm tired of this, and the teabaggers (which does mean a very, very sexual act between two males. I guess no one did any research before naming the group) and the "patriots" who think that they know so damn much, if not real knowledge, in VOLUME (might makes right).
This town deserves the likes of Glenn Cutler, because we're all too lazy, to cowed, or too stupid, too divided, and too antagonistic to work together to get him OUT.

Yeah. But, there are a lot of different ways to skin that cat. The state didn't say Port Angeles had to do the most expensive project it could come up with.
As I read somewhere (maybe here), the reason there are overflows is because rain is put in the sewer system. It was said they just need to stop putting the rain in the sewer system, to stop the overflows.
But, no huge consultant contracts doing that.
