Either you want the Navy to Destroy Olympic National Park, or you Love Adolph Hitler

That seems to be the general drift of a dimwitted letter in today’s (Sunday 7/12/15) PDN.  Here goes nothing:

“I’m concerned and disappointed that some Peninsula residents oppose the Navy’s electronic warfare training range.  [Planet Earth calling:  The Navy already has and is using an electronic warfare training range in southern Idaho.  Ed.]

I personally know the importance of this training.  [see above]

…I see two kinds of Peninsula residents opposing the electronic warfare range.  First, there are the technological novices who are clueless about the realities of the ‘electromagnetic wave.’

They’re unaware that we receive significantly higher electromagnetic wave exposure from the sun on a daily basis than we do from electronic warfare jammers throughout most lifetimes.  Simply, they’re misled about electromagnetism.

The knowing scoundrel — who seeks a stage upon which to falsely preen his radical feathers so as to rise up and cement his ‘knowledge’ to a naïve audience [as your tenth grade English would ask:  how many metaphors are contained in the preceding sentence] — is the second kind of individual.  It’s not too unlike how Hitler led the German masses astray — i.e., find a villain (electronic magnetism), repeatedly incite fear of it and, as he puts it down, rise up in the eyes of the naïve.

This latter individual not only basks in his selfish greed but cloaks himself in treasonous behavior.  His lies deserve debunking.”

[sigh]

NOTE:  I omitted the paragraph where the writer claims he “flew 209 combat missions in SEA as an electronic warfare officer.”  I’m not accusing this person of lying, but I simply can’t picture somebody this ignorant — and with such pitiful command of logical thought processes — actually piloting a plane.

Yes Tom, but remember that over 30% of Americans believe Adam and Eve walked with the dinosaurs 8,000 years ago. That fossils are a hoax.

So, just know that there are all types of people out there, and that 50% of people are below average intelligence.

Noisy, menacing Growler jets constantly buzzing back and forth above the treetops searching for elusive (and, if we are to believe the letter writer, harmless) electromagnetism emitters are the biggest threat to the Park and Peninsula environment. Does the letter writer think that the jet noise and fossil fuel burning impacts of the warfare range are insignificant too?

Everyone knows people drive for hours to experience the natural beauty of a military weapons testing range. People plan, and spend their recreation time listening to military jets doing exercises and training overhead.

Everyone knows the whole reason for the creation of the National Park system was to create a place for the military to train it's personnel and weapons systems. Anyone who thinks that parks were created to preserve spaces for the peaceful enjoyment of the natural beauty they contain must love Hitler, and not understand America.

Obviously this smart doctor that wrote the piece in question understands this. That's what makes him an "expert".

Port Angeles is doing so well, it can afford to have the military turn the Olympic National Park into a weapons testing range.

Sure, the Park now attracts around 3 million visitors a year, who come for the natural beauty. 3 million is a lot of people. So, if a significant portion of those people decide they don't want to vacation in a weapons testing range, who cares? If they decide to go to another place for peace, quiet and natural beauty, we won't miss them.

Because, Port Angeles is doing so well, anyways. We're hoping oil companies will bring their drilling rigs here.

Weapons testing, noisy jets training overhead in the area, oil tankers and oil drill rigs in the harbor. What nature loving tourist could complain?

Let's also remember that Hitler was elected. People listened to what he had to say, and enough of the voters agreed to vote him into office. "Patriotism", and all that.

I think of Hitler every time I see Donald Trump ranting away.
