Port Angeles City Council Comes Clean — NOT!

A few days ago the city council promised to make a public statement and “come clean” about that mystery scandal that led to Mark Madsen’s resignation. Referring to information about Madsen’s resignation, Mayor Gary Braun said “That is something that would have to be handled in open session.”

Riiight. All we got instead was “it wasn’t me,” “mistakes were made” “no laws were broken so we don’t need to tell, neener neener neener,” and “let’s move on now.”

The whole charade sounds like a grade school classroom where the teacher says “All right, everybody has to stay after school unless I find out who wrote these dirty words on the blackboard.” For a few minutes nobody budges, and then finally a hand gets raised and a sheepish little voice says “I did it.”

I was expecting at least that much candor from our new improved city council. What was I thinking?

There’s a new sheriff in town Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Really, what were you thinking? One of them was going to fall on their spear?

An appropriate movie quote:

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy"

No spine, no backbone...they're all invertebrates. And, I would hardly accuse any of them of being adults, either!

...Or at least all the newcomers must be Democrats...Madsen was O.K. until this new crowd showed up.

The newcomers are radical socialists hell-bent on forcing their crazy leftist agenda on the town.

We never had these problems when Richard Hedrick and Edna Peterson were on the City Council. Thank goodness Karen Rogers, Larry Williams and Gary Braun are there to stop this nonsense, otherwise these newcomers would declare our town a Soviet Commune!

Politics is politics whether it's local or national or global. Some people might have good intentions when they're running for office, but when they get in they get sucked in by the corruption. They become part of the problem they wanted to solve. This is true whether you're talking about the U.S. Senate or a podunk city council.

I think it's pretty interesting how much the PDN has turned on Madsen. Money shots from Sunday's paper... "Many city business leaders and the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce have accepted Madsen's memos at face value..."

Yeah, I think everybody has. Ahh, but... "Kidd also noted that she was worried about a conflict of interest between Madsen and the Clallam County business incubator, which will receive $85,000 a year in funding from the city." combined with "But Madsen did not note in the memo that he was the president of the incubator's board."

Usually I find the PDN pretty one-sided. Glad to see a little bit of investigative reporting coming from them at last! Way to go guys!

And, what's this noise about Madsen maybe being a "paid consultant" after he leaves his City Manager position??? WTF??? It's bad enough he's getting a pretty good-size severance for quitting (just about a year's salary for most folks) but to be additionally rewarded with a "golden parachute"? Which monkeys are running this zoo, anyway?

Anonymous (5:54 a.m. 7/28): Yup, Steppenwolf "Move Over" is correct.

You got me with the movie quote. I googled the quote but nothing came up.

Richard Hedrick & Edna Peterson, give me a break, of course unless you want to hand pick council members to fit your needs. Hedrick lost the election the last time he ran, but lets bring him back since we have a opening.
He did love sticking his foot in his mouth at every turn. Edna was hand picked and schooled quite well before she took her seat. By whom, you guessed it Karen Rogers.

Personally I think Mark Madsen liked having Karen in charge. But things did change didn't they.

Have a feeling she'd like to see us all vote for our mayor and spend more of our money.

I'll take obscure movie quotes for $2000, Alex.

Yes, google makes it way to easy to play jeopardy. It helps to have kiddies.

I'm willing to wager money that Madsen is going to "accept" the position of that new public agency
"The salary proposed for the chief of the recently formed Port Angeles Harbor Works Public Development Authority would be the fourth-highest in the public sector in the North Olympic Peninsula.

Port Angeles City Manager Mark Madsen, one of the architects of the new public corporation, estimated the director's salary at $150,000 annually."

""The Port Angeles Harbor Works executive director position will be a very complex job," said city spokeswoman Teresa Pierce.

It will require expertise in a combination of "land-use regulation, real estate development, project management, municipal agency management, contract management, negotiation, and civic leadership talents and experience," she said."

Seems pretty funny that Madsen designed a job that he is suited for, and with a pay raise, as well, for a bogus new agency that will manage a piss-ant budget (in the grand scheme of things).

All he had to do was come up with a way to get out of his current job...whooo hooo a hissy fit! Okay, that's off the list!
