Downtown Resource Officer on Scooter Patrol
The Port Angeles Police Department will be using a Segway Personal Transporter for a 2-week trial period. Basically it’s a $5,500 scooter that runs on a battery, goes 24 miles on one battery charge and goes up to 12.5 miles an hour.
The police department is hoping to be able to buy the Segway after the 2-week trial period. The downtown resource officer will be the first police officer to be trained to use the Segway.
They’re hoping the Segway will provide more effective patrols of the downtown area and the waterfront trail.

There should be no excuses about not catching those taggers now!
There should be a lot fewer excuses for all kinds of things now! The officer is hardly ever downtown, seems like, and this should make it easier for him to do what we need him for.
What a bunch of lazy people. Looks like that rather plump, umm, officer, could use to get off the chariot and walk.
The cup holder and doughnut tray must be out of sight in the picture....
To quote Buford T. Justice:
You're not getting away from me Bandit! I'll chase you in hot-pursuit to the ends of the earth!
what a WASTE OF MONEY
Absolutely laughable. Whose bright idea was this?
And the best part is that WE will be asked to fund it, by donation. Just call it what it is: another tax levy. We keep saying no, and they keep saying "More!"
Segways have always pissed me off. Bikes and skateboards are outlawed on city sidewalks because they're a safety hazard for pedestrians. So why are so many cities eager to allow a motorized vehicle on the sidewalks? Even one as limited as a Segway can do a lot of damage if it hits a pedestrian. Hope that thing has good brakes!
Plus there's the cost of the thing. $6,000 that's going outside the community. They could shave $5,000 off that and buy a good bike from Beckett's.
I don't understand why a BEAT PATROL officer assigned to downtown can't WALK! This is more about ill will than good will. He looks like a MORON tooling about in it...and he can only go 12 miles or so, before heading back to the station to recharge the batteries.
Our town leaders are SUCKERS for every bit of nonsense....why don't we rename the town to Port RUBE!
how long before someone is hit by that guy!!! He goes much to fast. If they're going to allow that thing, then they might as well allow skateboards and bikes on the sidewalk. Heck, outlaw pedestrians all together...because you're not safe walking anymore. Its a danger, a hazard, and unnerving as hell. A motorized scooter is frightening to have come up to behind you because it hardly makes any noise...and he goes too fast. Can't wait for the first lawsuit -- someone is going to get hurt.
did you see him on a CELL PHONE in the parade! Geez...can't even observe the laws
