Maybe someday the projects that people actually want will get the funding they need, and the corrupt contractors will have to hold a bake sale to pay for their newest albatross.

Wouldn't that be great? Why do they get to build a project nobody wants, on the most beautiful piece of land in town, using contractors from somewhere else, who can't pour concrete right and allow weight-bearing parts to crack? This stupid Gateway cost, what, 15 million? For a bus station/homeless shelter? How many pools could we build for that? And the Fine Arts Center too.

"... the most beautiful piece of land in town" ... whachoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?!

That corner was a blight!

Hey gang, don't look now, but that big empty building between Country Aire and Zenzizi is going to be turned into another "low-income" housing project!

Anonymous? Willis here. I'll tell you what I'm talkin' about, Bubba. The sweeping view the Gateway Center commands will be very nice for the people who will gather there, presumably the same people who always gather at bus stations. I agree the businesses that were thrown out to make room for this big white elephant weren't the classiest in town. But building a $14 million homeless shelter doesn't improve it.

If that empty building between Zenzizi and Country Aire becomes low income housing, or anything at all, it will be a big improvement. It's ridiculous having a huge building right downtown just sitting there empty and unused year after year. It would be nice of those absentee owners, a couple from southern California, would either sell that building or do something with it.

The good news is that dear old Bob Stokes is taking over the former McLean's Shoe store and turning it into another McArt Gallery! Hooray!
