Covarrubias Murder Conviction Overturned!
Robert Gene Covarrubias was convicted of raping and murdering 15-year-old Melissa Leigh Carter in Port Angeles on December 26th, 2004. And now his conviction has been overturned by the State Court of Appeals.
The Court ruled that Covarrubias is entitled to a retrial because the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was late in disclosing sixteen pieces of evidence to Covarrubias’ defense attorneys.
Like most Port Angeles residents, I remember that case very well. I was walking out on City Pier and couldn’t understand what all those police cars were doing on the Waterfront Trail. It didn’t seem like a good idea to walk out there and ask them what was going on, so I didn’t. It wasn’t until the next day that I found out what had happened.
There’s still a monument to Melissa Leigh Carter along the Waterfront Trail where her body was found.
The Court of Appeals did agree that there was enough evidence to support Covarrubias’ murder conviction. He’s only getting a retrial because of the issue with evidence being disclosed late. He was originally sentenced to 34 years when he was convicted in 2006.

Do the world a favor and shoot an attorney. The political and law system in this country is so screwed up that I can't believe in it anymore.
"Alleged", I hate that frigging word, ten people can see someone do something and it's still just alleged that they did it. Bullfuckingshit, ten people watched it.
Just before I moved here ten years ago a doctor here killed his wife, and tried to cover it up. This is one sick world.
I get really pissed off at some people at times and think I would like to kill them but have never resorted to that.
But if I did I know ways to make them completely disappear without a trace.
But just because I have a love/hate relationship with mankind it doesn't mean I would do that.
Besides, with them gone who would I have to pick on? To torment? Ha ha ha ha.
If that $#!^&*##$! gets his conviction overturned he better leave this area and go into permanent hiding, or he'll have a mysterious accident.

This really ticks me off. We bend so far over backwards to give the scumbags their "rights" that the victims get no justice.

That's all I've got to say about this.
The justice system is set up to have balances and counterbalances. The DA's office should not have missed the deadline to give evidence to the defense. PERIOD. There are court rules and deadlines in place to try and insure a fair trial. This is slapping them hard and saying "you screwed up". Hopefully they won't do it again.
Instead of being angry at the "system" (or not understanding it and advocating violence...such as the mental midget, BBC) be thankful that it is still working..or trying to.
The courts are our only balance to overturn bad laws, and try and right all the wrong that politicians have done.....
Wise up.

Keep electing liberal judges...or liberal legislators who appoint liberal judges, and that's what we get...the perps have more rights than the victim!!
If we had a quick death penalty, he woulda already been fried, and it would be too late to come up with some lame-ass excuse to overturn his conviction.

No, the problem is one of sloppy work by our local DA and the judge not catching it. Court is rules and a process...to mess up in any step of the process...means something in it is not working. I blame the DA for trying to hide evidence, and not present it to the defense early enough. It's not fair, and it's poor form. In fact, it's NOT DOING THEIR DAMN JOB. The person was not given a fair trial...and that is the problem. If the DA had been playing by the rules, the guy would be convicted and that would be it.
Jizzy, the court system ...although flawed...is all we have left in this country to protect our rights and freedom. I would guess you don't care about that, or understand it. Go back to eating your Big Mac, dearie, let the grown up talks...
You know why Clallam County hasn't been slammed over and over for violating prisoners rights while in the custody of the sacred Clallam County Sheriff's Department?

The CCSD keeps the numbers up in Olympia by allowing the DA to routinely violate speedy trial rights afforded the accused by our constitution.
They're sole purpose is to wear a prisoner down until they are so demoralized, that they are willing to take the "first thing smokin", (Meaning...first train )out of this GOD FORSAKEN Crooked Clallam county!!!
That is how your beloved DA's office is successful, not because they have any fortitude in any other sense. Dis-ingenious AT BEST.
