The Deer That Ate Port Angeles

I don’t want to discredit somebody’s first-hand account of an event, but today’s front page story sounds too much like one of those reality TV shows. When Animals Attack! Pets Gone Wild!

A person being charged or attacked by an aggressive deer?

I can see both sides of this bill that’s been introduced in Olympia — whether or not to prohibit people from feeding wild animals in their yard. This bill (House Bill 1885, introduced by Rep. Kevin Van De Wege) would institute a $104 fine for feeding certain types of wildlife.

It can be a hazard — more to animals than people — when wild animals get too tame and lose their fear of people.

But this issue should be debated logically, without stirring up a bunch of hysteria about killer deer. Animals already suffer enough cruelty from people; this paranoid “When Animals Attack!” mentality only makes things worse.

A few sometimes come in the yard to eat any ground fall apples left over but I don't put out other food for them.

It hasn't been that hard of the winter, people shouldn't put out feed for them. They haven't even been here this year.

During a hard winter I have no problem with it as long as they put feed out away from the homes, out in a big field or something.

It's not wise to invite them into your yards. I leave them alone but any deer getting aggressive with me will end up in the stew pot.

Politicians and bleeding hearts think they know how to fix shit. So do I, in a crock pot, ha ha ha.

But I'm okay with a fine, it's one way of controlling idiots. I guess those that feed lots of birds close to their home like lots of fighting birds and bird shit.

These people move out to a development surrounded by wilderness and then they get dumbfounded when animals come into their yards - duh.

They are not killer deer, only deer that have learned to look for handouts and may become a bit aggressive if it isn't there.

They are the same way out in nature away from us when food is in short supply. Only out there there aren't any idiots feeding them and teaching them learned behavior.

But they are so cute, "Look honey, there is a deer on the patio, isn't she cute?"

"Hey, you bitch, you just shit on my patio." Ha ha ha.

It's too bad issues like this can't just be worked out between neighbors instead of bringing in the government to run everything.
