New Blog for Hood Canal Bridge

There’s a new blog related to the Hood Canal Bridge closure this May and June. It’s put out by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Check it out.

The blog has tips and suggestions for alternate ways to get across the canal, and links to ferry schedules. There’s also a link to a ridesharing site here.

Hopefully this will make things a little less chaotic when the bridge is closed.

Hood Canal Bridge Downgrade

Some people remember fishing and crabbing from the Hood Canal Bridge fishing pontoon. The new and improved bridge will not allow public fishing access. Joe six-pack and the kids paid into the system by purchasing fishing licenses for years and now the welcome mat has been taken up because...why? Could it be security?

Thousands of cars cross the bridge daily. When the bridge opens, the cars aren’t even required to wait on land. Cars are parked on the bridge for the 30 minutes or so that the bridge stays open- people get out and wonder around, etc. Is this good security? Boaters can still navigate close to the bridge via the channel on both ends, and through the center span when it opens. Family fishing fun however, is now off limits.

Unless I get a hankering to go to Harbor Freight in Tacoma for boy toys and tools it's a moot point to me.

It's my personal opinion that when it reopens that anyone wanting to come to this side should have to pay a big fee to do so unless they are a resident here.

To many of them damn Californians moving here screwing this area up. Oh, that would be you, ha ha ha.

Well, maybe not you, I don't know you except through this blog so maybe you are not one that moved here and then failed to turn his brain off after getting here.

Except for a few years in other states I've been a Washingtonian all my life.

California is a great state also, if they would stop screwing it up and then moving here to screw this area up.

Alex, four words. "Poach from the king." Never mind, that will go over most heads.

I'm going to assume Anonymous 7:23 am meant the "Esprit" ladies -- cross-dressers who have their annual convention here. They're nice guys, hurting NOBODY, and they are good for Port Angeles. The story is that Port Angeles was very welcoming to them the first time they held a convention here, and so they have repaid the favor by always having their convention here, spending money, speaking well of Port Angeles when they go home, and in general improving our tourism and reputation. What's not to like?

Those guys are so much fun; they are absolutely un-apologetic for their "hobby" and they are personable and friendly.

I hope they can get here again this year!

Those moving here from other states, generally speaking of course.

I'm posting a picture of the gateway project and some thoughts on my blog in the morning in case you want to check it out.

Maybe there's an auto repairman's convention happening in May. I've often heard of the transmission referred to as a "tranny."

H'mmmm ...
