Thirty-eight Acres of Farmland Preserved

All three Clallam County Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing a conservation easement for the Dungeness Valley Creamery Farmland Preservation project.

In return for keeping their land a farm and not selling out to developers, the landowners — Jeffrey and Debra Brown — will be compensated. They’ll receive a check equal to the appraised value of the development rights of their property.

Friends of the Fields and the North Olympic Land Trust had both been working for this arrangement. Getting county approval was their last hurdle. The project was made possible by a grant from the Farmland Preservation Program of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program.

A spokesman for North Olympic Land Trust said: “That was the last signature that was needed. This conservation easement will go with the titles forever.”

This is totally great! At last, something GOOD happening here. We need farmland preserved and I've been watching in horror (like everybody else) as it is destroyed for more tract housing and/or big box stores. This is FANTASTIC!

That's interesting, but they did get compensated well it seems.

I worked part time a lot for a couple in Sequim with a five acre organic farm and they were planing on leaving it to the WSU farming program.

Don't know if that will actually happen though. They can afford it, he's a well off retired engineer so they don't need compensation for it. They just want to try to leave the world a better place.

I'm leaving my place to a friend here.

Billy, is it true that you were a migrant worker down south picking avocados for 15 cents a ton?

Anonymous.... It is true that I've been a service manager in three Ford dealerships and owned my own successful business.

It is true that I've been in 49 states and a large part of Canada and have met and talked to many people and experienced many things in my sixty-five years. And still do get around a lot.

While you was watching the Simpson's and other nonsense. :-)

But if you hear that rumor that I'm a millionaire, that isn't true. I just choose these days to live the life I chose to live when I moved here.

If money and empire building is important to you go for it, but my world has never turned around all that.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Is it true that you were at the food bank because you are too frigging lazy to work?

Yeah, a few times in my life I've worked for cheap wages to get by, did whatever I had to do.

I said that I worked at an organic farm, I did not say that I gardened there.

I was the builder there and at their homestead in a different location, fixer of many things, blah, blah, blah.

While you worked at some boring little job that made you a nitwit. :-)

What Billy means to say is "any comment about me will be received with anger, nasty comments...several, actually...and attacks" he's like that chained pitbull with the sign that says "do not pet". If you even try you get bitten.
Calm down Mr. Bill..calm down.
We don't need your breast beating and hollering. Sure, sure, you're the salt of the earth and better than all the rest of us. WE KNOW. You've told us.

This is a great deal for all parties. We get to keep some farm land, the owners get the profits they would have made if they had sold to a builder, and this whole deal wasn't mandated by the government. This is the way to do it.

Not BBC..... Haven't been around and experienced much, have you? And you think you know me when you have never even sat and drank coffee with me.

I'm not happy with the world and I don't deny that. And I pick on it, you have much to learn. Does your mother know that you are using her computer?

... you have never even sat and drank coffee with me.

If your attitude on this board is anything to go by, why would we want to subject ourselves to your foul-mouthed rantings up close and personal?

I'll pass, thanks.

Meaning no disrespect to BBC or any of his stated detractors, I do wish we could all do a little less name-calling on this blog. This is meant to be a forum about local issues, not about who's better than someone else. This blog has gotten tiresome, and a lot of people are not reading it or commenting anymore because of all this third-grade crap. So what do you say, can we cut back on it a little?

to Just a thought...
You mean, instead of having all these fights with Billy-boy, go back to bashing Edna? Seems that has always been the tone on this blog.
It's the nature of a blog, though..and, given the dominance by BBC (and the tone) it's not going to be highbrow. It's PA...scratch your behind and spit, "Aww shucks we are just as so-fis-to-cated as the city folk."
Sorry to say...this town (ergo blog) identifies more with the likes of Billy and JizzyLizzy. Sad but true. Welcome to the United States of the Inerudite.

Earlier in the week, in another thread, someone complained about Billy and Tom's reply indicated an indifference to his reader's concerns.

Take it or leave it sums up the situation.

I second what "just a thought" said. This was supposed to be a place to discuss local issues and problems. How about bringing things up a notch or 2 from "you #$%&#!#" and "big boobs". There must be a bathroom wall you could write on if that's the best you can do.

Whoever is moderating these comments should get more selective.

It just might be possible that Tom understands me more than any of my detractors here. :-)

Possibly because Tom is smarter than they are, think about it. :-)

Edna bashing ... Bob Stokes bashing ... down with the PADA ... stenchies ... the city council is stupid ... those "statue-things" suck ... blah-blah-blah-blah. That's what this blog is about in a nut shell.

I have to admit that I've never seen so much spleen and vituperative discourse in one community before. No wonder downtown and the city at large is in such bad condition physically and spiritually.

Nowhere is perfect and P.A. certainly has a lot it can improve on. But after reading some of this garbage and slander, I wonder how some of you people can live with yourselves!

With dominance of BBC, the notion of a "moderated" forum is pretty much out the window.

While I think the idea behind this blog is a good one, I think Tom's just not up to it. Creating a Blogger account is not difficult and there are other online bulletin board/forum services out there. If someone wants to devote the time to the creation and moderation of such a blog/forum, go for it!

When the only posts come from Lizzie and Billy, maybe Tom will wise up.

Who is the anonymous whiner that's been complaining in this comment section and the comment section 2 posts ago? I bet it's either a member of the downtown association or some other local wannabe "player" with a puffed up sense of importance.

hey anonymous - 6:23 p.m. on Feb. 6th - since you get a kick out of coming back to the same blog you hate, what are your other hobbies? Maybe you keep going back to a restaurant you hate and order the worst thing on the menu, just so you can sit there and grumble about it. Prognosis -- too much time on your hands.
