Nippon to Close for Sixteen Days
Nippon Paper Industries USA will be extending its biennial maintenance closure from five days to sixteen days. This closure will be from April 27th to May 12th. Seventy-five to eighty workers will be temporarily laid off during this period.
Harold Norlund, manager of the mill, said: “The economic slowdown has negatively affected the uncoated mechanical grade market, and the shutdown is necessary to balance production with inventory.”
He also said, “We're all hoping for a better second half of the year.”

Surprising they have been able to keep running this long. Demand for directory telephone book paper and other light weight papers of that type are going down every year.
No biggie, they shut down every year for maintenance...just a little longer this year to reduce inventory.
PDN made it sound worse than what it is...PDN: bunch of friggin vultures.
It sure is better than having to close. I give them credit for staying open and working through the downturn. Wish we had more companies like that here.
Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!
Another brick in my villainous wall of evil has been set and my plans for complete control of Port Angeles are coming to fruition!
I have plans for Nippon Industries which involve two hundred tons of lard, sixty-seven woodchucks and a can of split pea soup. Just wait till I unleash this fiendishly clever and utterly evil plan, you simpletons!
My good friend Hu Jintao has sold me several warehouses full of old, musty Mao suits from the 1950s. Just the thing for the opening of Nosferatu's Evil Clothing Emporium (formerly Gottschalk's). You'll be cutting a dash on the streets of Port Angeles in these fine togs, bosun! I'm told the curious smell goes away after numerous washings.
