Port Angeles City Council Candidates

Out of the ten candidates who’ve filed for the city council races, one person in particular seems to echo exactly what Port Angeles residents have been grumbling about for months.

Rick Burton (whom I’d never heard of before reading the PDN article) says the city should prioritize its spending better. In particular, he mentions spending $6.1 million on Gateway, and then being “unable” to fund William Shore Memorial Pool.

“They spent money on The Gateway transit center and turn around and want to form a tax district for the swimming pool. It doesn't make any sense to me.”

He also doesn’t think the city should have formed the Port Angeles Harbor-Works Development Authority; but if this public development authority is what the public wants then he’ll support it.

Aren’t these the exact things you and your friends and acquaintances have been saying all along? Or the conversations you overhear around town — if they’re talking about local politics, that’s probably what they’re saying.

A city council candidate who actually speaks for us.

In other words, he doesn’t stand a chance.

Seems to me that we though the same about Besty when she lst ran for office, however she has pretty much voted with the old members of the Council rather than really listening to the voters.

... and so does Cheri Kidd and Dan DiGuilio. I'm voting for Edna, at least I'll know going in that I'm going to get shafted.

No kidding ....Betsy and Cheryl have been HUGE disappointments. Last time I'll vote with hope...I might as well just give up voting all together. Seems there is something that turns off the brain and sets aside morals when people get all high-and-mighty and enter city politics. Stepford councilmembers?

Didn't the Stepford Trio, Betsy, Cheri and Dan, all campaign on bringing the Farmers Market back down town? I guess the Gateway Pavillion is close to down town.

I see that Betsy is running un-opposed. Someone needs to run against them if for no other reason than to force them to publicly state why the broke every campaign promise they made.

Throw the bums out!!!!

I've not heard of Rick Burton either. But if he is running for a political office that only means that he is learning how to be a politican.

If he does get in and doesn't become a politican he'll only last for one term.

When you get into that club they make you one of them, they brainwash you into it.

And if he takes a tough stand on expense the voters will boot him out because the voters want to be spoiled also.

Bottom line? You are all screwing each other. And you are all going down together. But it goes well with a little ice cream.

The plan to create a special tax district for the Fine Arts Center is under way. There was a "Save the Fine Arts Center" letter in yesterday's paper. Hey, we fell for "Saving" the poll, so why not the Fine Arts Center?
