Victoria Might Finally Stop Sh#tting Into the Strait

It’s a first step anyway. A regional planning agency has voted 11 to 3 to build four sewage treatment plants.

The cost is about $1.2 billion and the plants won’t be operating until 2016. These four treatment plants will tentatively be in Saanich, Esquimalt, Victoria and the west shore.

Currently, the Strait of Juan de Fuca gets about 31 million gallons of raw sewage dumped into it each day.

'Bout time they start doing something. They have been foot-dragging for decades!

Between the raw yuccchh into the Strait, and the smog which is largely from Victoria, Port Angeles is really getting the fallout, with few of the benefits of being near a major tourist destination.

I hope they do something soon!

"Neighbor" has a point. The smog around here has been really bad in the last few months. It's bad right now because of the heat, but we've had some really smoggy days all winter and spring. It can be pouring rain several days in a row, and the first sunny day, the smog is back. I don't remember that from previous years. Clallam County isn't growing, and southern Vancouver Island is growing like a weed. So I assume the air pollution is coming from them.

This is a problem and I think they should fix it sooner.
