Not having looked into this very much, but based upon the story as presented, it doesn't sound like a "new branch" in Port Angeles, just one relocated to a new location.
Am I reading this incorrectly?
Given the increasing unemployment claims (as reported a few days ago), and the ongoing foreclosures, I think they are brave to put the money out to try to continue.
They are a business that needs real money, not just positive thoughts.
What ever, since moving here my bank has changed hands four times but the service has always been good so I'm sticking with what is now Wells Fargo.
The chicks there get a kick out of me so I have that going for me also.
Did the locksmith shop that has been on 8th street close, or move somewhere else. Anyone know?
There are so many stores closed now, and "For Rent" signs all over. I'm losing track!
There's a rumor going around, some of the public parking lots downtown will be closed during the july 4 weekend, for some sort of garage sale. Anyone know if this is true?
It is the one parking lot next to the shoe store on Saturday, July 23. The event is from 9am-5pm.

Oh, cool! Another shop that used to pay property taxes in Port Angeles, that doesn't anymore.
NOTE: I won't have any computer access for the next day and a half, so I won't be able to publish any comments until late Thursday.
Different topic, but I thought Dick Pilings' comments in the PDN article about the Rayonier property were SO lame. He went on about how important it was that the (privately owned property) former mill site owners should NOT be allowed to do what they want with their own property, which is to clean it up, restore the ecosystems, and leave it undeveloped. He ranted on about how it was needed to create "family wage jobs" in Port Angeles.
Makes it sound like the ONLY way "family wage jobs" can happen in the Port Angeles area is if the local cronies can get their hands on somebody else's property.
The former Walmart property isn't big enough, doesn't have enough on-site customer parking, or highway frontage? How about all the other vacant storefronts all around town? Not good enough to be worthy of the Port Angeles Business Association's attention and help?
Why has the PABA let all these existing businesses fail, their storefronts go vacant, and stay vacant for so long? Aren't they the "business association"? Why is the former Rayonier property the only thing they seem interested in, and try to do anything about?
The PABA meets every week. If they are so concerned about keeping business on the tax roles, about keeping properties "productive", and creating "family wage jobs", why is it that the only "business" they have done anything about for YEARS now, is the empty Rayonier mill site, while dozens of existing businesses fail? What have they done to help the existing business community?
We have many do-nothing groups in Port Angeles. But the PABA is the best at doing nothing of all of them. And yet they meet EVERY SINGLE WEEK.
Anon 9:59 PM says "...Why is the former Rayonier property the only thing they seem interested in,..."
Anybody, with ANY economic sense should know that the Rayonier site is the ONLY industrial zoned, waterfront site that can even be considered to be available for water-dependent, industrial-type, family wage jobs kinds of development, in our community. The ANTI-EVERYTHING types will and have seen too it that zoning changes and variances that could allow industry anywhere else is impossible to get.
The Pen Ply site is available for development of family wage, water dependent jobs.
It seems to me that the anti-everything types are the "leaders" of the PABA, who are locked into early 20th century mode. Progress can only mean exploiting the environment; a woman's place is in the home; family-wage jobs are "manly" jobs in the woods or dirty polluting industries. The PABA is anti-everything progressive.

What about all the "under-utilized" properties along the harbor that the Port already owns, that sit vacant? From what you say, no other places in the Port Angeles area are able to create "family wage jobs"? What does THAT say for Port Angeles' future?!
But, it doesn't bother the PABA that the property OWNERS of the Rayonier mill site want to do something else with THEIR property. I'll bet, if you did a poll of the membership, that most of the PABA membership are strong "property rights" advocates, and if somebody tried to tell them what to do with THEIR property, they would be strongly opposed. But, this is somebody else's property, so it's different.
And, it doesn't bother the PABA that the studies done specifically for that property have shown NO interest in commercial, industrial or residential development. Still, they go to Olympia, write letters, etc.
For the last 5 years or more, as more and more businesses have closed up and moved away, what SPECIFICALLY has PABA done to help ANY of the local businesses? Any workshops on how to hang on in tough times? ANYTHING?
