We took a friend (from out of town) to the Marine Life Center today. We love it there and the staff was wonderful as always... but making our way through the gang of yelling and aggressive teens who have taken over the park was intimidating to say the least... they were shooting bb gun pistols that looked like real guns, yelling, shaking each other, pounding on their cars,... even screaming at dog walkers " awww come on! Let me pet your dog!!!" The staff said it started being a problem this year and there is nothing the police can do about it... I saw many activities that are against the law. What a shame... we won't be going back unless something is done about it. I am sure the tourists and their dollars feel the same way. We would like to go to the events, but we won't go down there again until we can feel safe.

I was just told that there's an article about the problem in the PDN: http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2011306109982 :(

I've been to a number of those concerts in the past and never experienced the teen problem, it must be a current thing.

Solution: Pack your own heat, kids have no right messing things up unless you allow them too. Send them packing.

Adults are getting so wimpy.

God, this line up is the same as last year, which was the same as the year before, which was the same as the year before that...I know it's more work to arrange for new and/or out of town performers, but come on...How are you gonna draw the locals with the same old thing EVERY year?

BBC, most of these "young men" were much bigger than I am (the most threatening of them was about twice my size)... If I get in an altercation with a "child", I would go to jail. These punks could kill me and only do a few years in a juvenile facility. We are wimpy because the laws have taken all our power away... and the "kids" know it. I'm not going to be taken from my family, so I can be tough. I shouldn't have to pack a gun to go downtown.

Well said Heidi! The only thing someone should be "packing" downtown is a camera. A photograph with time and date stamped data is a powerful tool for citizens.

Guns don't care how big someone is.

The child is being a thug, and it takes a village to raise a child. They feed you in jail you know, it's not like you will starve to death.

I shouldn't have to pack a gun to go downtown.

True, but welcome to America, it's on the planet Earth and it's not a nice planet.

BTW, I like your blog. :-)

Say "Thank You" to those in our great city government that pushed to get the Gateway Hang Out Center built.

And, remember to keep your comments positive, Heidi. Randall has a plan. Just be all smiley and positive, and everything in Port Angeles (and the rest of the world) will be great.

You too, Billy. No negativity allowed.

And just how will that change and improve things? It's often the bothered that causes problems and changes society for the better.

You want me to go knife a few of them for you? If I do go this summer I'm not letting any brats spoil it for me.

But I usually go on the boat so don't get in the area where the brats are.

BTW, in the small mining and logging town (they were plenty rowdy back then) I spent my teen years in there wasn't any cops. Was there a teen thug problem?

No way, every adult in the town was a cop in that respect and didn't have any problem with getting on teens if they were getting out of line.

And no problem calling their parents and telling them they needed to get their kids back in line.

It was a very good system and worked well.

.....

Yeah, history backs you up on that, but Randall C Page seems to think he has a plan. Not that I agree with him.

I think Randall should go over to Egypt, Syria, Libya, Yemen and the other places that are protesting against years of oppression, and tell them that democratic dialogs do not include any negative comments. I'm sure they'll listen closely.

Someone should tell the PDN not to publish all that negative stuff about the area. Weak economy, foreclosures and more in todays paper, alone.

Yeah, really funny. I'm glad you're rolling on the floor laughing. The plight of our community and nation really IS something to laugh about.

Maybe you can organize a crew to go to the houses that are being foreclosed upon with a clown suit on, singing your song, and tell them how everything is so great.

Geez Anonymous, didn't that one work for you? Maybe this is more your style.

"I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no negative action
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no cushy job, I can't get no cushy job

When I'm surfin' on the blog
and I'm cuttin'
and I'm pastin'
About some useless information
Supposed bring some people down
I can't get no, oh no, no, no
Hey hey hey, that's what I say

I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get negative action
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no negative action, I can't get no negative action."

If you can sing it and carry a tune you could maybe get one of the bands listed here to let you do a cameo. I will come a shoot pics. I would love to add you to the gallery at Whack-a-Troll Central.

Thank you.

ps, respects to Jagger and Richards

Anonymous (ad nauseam): The plight of our nation is nothing to laugh about, but you sure are. Do you think it’s not obvious that you’re a sad failure who continues to blame your surroundings for your own inability to cope? The simple fact is that you attack anyone and anything that doesn’t share your bleak vision of the world, the country, or this little town. Most of us have experienced (multiple) failures and setbacks along the way, but instead of blaming everything but the kitchen sink, most of us picked ourselves up and (usually with a little help!) managed to muster on. You’re a loser, because you think like a loser. It isn’t Mr. Page’s fault, or mine, or Port Angeles, or the banking industry or the oil companies… It’s you baby, all you.

What have you done for Port Angeles lately? I don't mean in the past, but just in this last year. Do you think that your complaining helps people pay their mortgages? Do you just morbidly want Port Angeles to become a ghost town and convince everyone to leave? You mocked me for being an optimist, well I'm not mocking you, I'm asking you to think about what you are doing. I care a lot about this city and everybody who lives here, and I want to see existing businesses survive so that the economy gets better around here, and maybe that can attract new businesses. In this last year 6 people have visited me from out of state. All of them had a good time and said they would come back... All of them stayed more than one day and spent money at local businesses (they dined out, some stayed at hotels overnight, and they brought home things that they bought, like clothes and gifts). None of these people were wealthy... they just wanted to visit this area, and one who is self-employed even may move here. All of these people told other friends about how beautiful Port Angeles is, and put pictures on their blogs etc., so maybe some of their friends will vacation here too. I have several more friends and family members who say they want to visit in this next year, and I'll take them to the concerts on the pier and the Wednesday and Sunday Farmer's Markets. It may seem small, but inviting friends to come visit here when it is freezing cold or blazing hot where they live does help our local economy. So does telling other people about local businesses that you do like... Swains is great... I don't go to Walmart. Angeles Lumber sure beats Home Depot for saving time and getting things right the first time.

Positive Attitude, you make some excellent points, I too know a couple people who might consider relocating here. Togethter they produced 2 top rated I-phone apps. One of these guys has wanted to take classes at the boat building school in Port Townsend for a few years. His partner is getting married soon and wants a peaceful place to raise a family. They could do their work anywhere in the world, but they like what I have been telling them about P.A.

Anyway, see you all at the Concerts on the Pier! I will be the one in the clown suit...

Special thanks this time to Tom Harper.

Anonymous (ad nauseam): The plight of our nation is nothing to laugh about, but you sure are. Do you think it’s not obvious that you’re a sad failure who continues to blame your surroundings for your own inability to cope?

............

Yeah, right. As if you know what I do, how "successful" I am, etc.

But, as you and your clowns don't seem to grasp, none of what I raise is about me. Yes, you just conveniently ignore the points I raise about the reality of the situation, as you try to insult me.

Most (that means more than half) of the NOP's economy is reliant on government payrolls. The "stimulus" money that has kept local governments afloat is just now coming to an end. Both the State and Federal governments are looking at historic budget cuts, which will continue for years to come. Foreclosures are still at record highs.

How do those realities have anything to do with my "success"? You don't know if I even live on the NOP, so none of this may directly affect me.

What am I blaming on anyone?

To the contrary, you (And Randall) readily ignore the subjects of concern, and quickly try to personalize the national/international crises by resorting to attempted insults.

In what fantasy world do you live, where you think by blindly throwing out groundless insults, you will solve grave economic realities facing this community? Do you really think by ignoring the realities of the area, and simply be "positive", everything else will just fade away?

How long has the Midas Muffler storefront outside of town been empty? How many more "For rent" signs can you count today, than last month?

Yes, I realize you think that these storefronts that have remained empty for years now, the "due diligence" studies done by professionals revealing no interest in retail, commercial or industrial development, the increases in "for rent" signs because fewer people are renting places here, yes, all are because of me.

And, yes, I have hired those thugs to hang out downtown, and hired Heidi to post her comments. Yep.

Go ahead. Believe that. Invest your money with your positive attitudes.

It is all great, and getting better.

Yep. You want to see who really are the "losers"?

Seriously, some of the gloom and doom around here is hilarious. Like the commenter on PDN who said downtown is "half empty". You can just walk around and disprove that. Actually, given the state of the economy I'm surprised downtown PA's doing as good as it is!

I'm not going to say everything's rosy, either for PA or America, but I'm not the type to drag my heels and say "it'll never work, we'll never make it" either. Port Angeles has survived mill after mill shutting down, it will survive this economic downturn. America survived the Great Depression and World War II and came out of it swinging. We could survive the Great Recession too. It won't be easy, but we've far more in the past and we can do it now too. I've had a couple really miserable years. But things are starting to look better, the pendulum swings as the pendulum is wont to do. I'm using my time to look for and position myself to take advantage of opportunities. I don't have time to sit around and mope, and I'd hope the rest of the town doesn't either.

Nerd dude said "the pendulum swings as the pendulum is wont to do."

Dude! I am in the midst of smoking the mornin bowl, you know and like, I read this and I was all like struck by the profundity of yer um statement, you know?

Its' like one of those Sen jokes or something about blades of grass or trees in the forest or rice paper. Kinda like Kung Foo where that kid has to walk silently cross the rice paper or the old samurai dude won't let him leave or something. You know? Anyway

Im not into the negative scene you know? I mean why? Dude, better to smoke a bowl or two or three ha! and put yourself into that good space, that's what i say and I put my words into practice. Well, not always cos can you imainge if you did I mean always? Dude that would all messed up and yet funny too. Hah!

So like most kids of my gneration dont care much about politics and stuff. I mean it's all the Man, right? And it's confusin. Like check it, dude I try and wrap my head around these concepts and like it won't work and its hard bt I gave it a shot you know? A lot of my friends are all like no way and thats that, dont even try. I can relate. I pass no Judgment. Still So um yeah well anyway I don't think you at least try or at least get people who can wrap their minds round it for you. Obamas like that. I figure the bro knows whats up so Im down with it.

So anyway Im sayin your words are all right and worthy and such. I think I will write em down and cogitate further on the subject at hand if you dig my meaning

Peace out all

I saw in todays' PDN that the unemployment rates in Clallam continue to rise.

150 new service jobs were generated last May. Great.

450 "First time unemployment claims" were filed in May.

Not so great.

Hi again: PA Nerd, you make some very good points in your posting.

Anonymous, You of course avoid the pertinent questions. Positive Attitude asked you

"What have you done for Port Angeles lately? I don't mean in the past, but just in this last year. Do you think that your complaining helps people pay their mortgages? Do you just morbidly want Port Angeles to become a ghost town and convince everyone to leave?"

You avoid the question Anonymous!

Now I have a question for you. You have made these claims...

"I have a Fine Arts background, and have been self employed most of my life....As a creative, I am affected by my surroundings. Port Angeles is so negative and depressed, I have not done any real creative work here"

"I travel quite a bit, and by comparison, Port Angeles is a backwater of culture, politics and commerce."

"I've volunteered for my communities my entire life, and was raised with the belief we each have a responsibility to contribute to society."

"My products have been sourced by the US White House, for the US President."

Can you answer P;A.'s question and can you prove these statements are in fact true?

Oh, and one more question going back to your posting telling me to "Piss off"...can you use Google search?

Thank you!

Randall, you can just F**K off. You have offered absolutely NO basis to question the truth about what I have said about myself, but have no qualms insulting me by insinuating I am not telling the truth.

What gives you the right to blindly insult people?

Like with the other trolls that have made their way through here, there comes a time to say "enough".

You have earned that status with me.

Good luck with your "positive attitude". I'm sure not impressed.

"What gives you the right to blindly insult people?"

I thought that's what this blog was really about - the chance to insult people and places around town with giddy abandon.

Whether we use our own names, clever parody names ("Bodhi Clevins"), clever aliases ("The Watcher" ad nauseum), or remain Anonymous the opportunity to slag our fellow citizen, a local business or some part of the local government is just a keyboard stroke away.

It's no wonder nothing ever gets done in this town with all these bitter, jealous people itching to bring it all down.

Well, there you have it Port Angeles Online...the supremely negative "Anonymous" will not engage in dialogue, nor will she answer direct questions. She makes claims that cannot be verified and her input here can be boiled down to the following quotes..."Piss Off"..."Port Angeles is so negative and depressed, I have not done any real creative work here"...and of course the crowd pleasing old time favorite..."F**K OFF"! I for one am not impressed!

I guess that Anonymous-4:00am is right.

However, I have seen some very intelligent and well crafted thoughts here. I hope to have more exchanges with WTF, PA.nerd and Positive Attitude, as well as BBC many others. This place Tom Harper has given us can be a place of ideas, dialoque and humor. Maybe we won't solve the problems here in P.A., but at least we can try to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

Thank you!
