Possible One-Day Strike at Olympic Medical Center
If the union that represents nurses and service workers cannot reach a deal with OMC over staffing and benefits, they might go on a one-day strike on August 11th. Service Employees International Union 1199NW gave notice last Friday of the possible strike. Their spokeswoman said:
“Our goal is to settle a fair contract, not to go on strike.”
OMC has filed a motion for a temporary restraining order against the strike. A judge in Kitsap County is expected to hear arguments tomorrow regarding the restraining order.

The Union does it again...
What a joke
who cares? I'd rather drive to a "real" hospital in Seattle, or just stay at home and die, than deal with that mismanaged group of vultures.
Is it safe for me to assume that most health care workers are more interested in bigger pay checks than helping others?
I have no idea what they make but I'm guessing they already make decent wages and have better benefits than many of the rest of us.
I also don't understand having a union in a county hospital where in theory everyone is supposed to be served.
Hell, I guess I don't understand a damn thing anymore, other than this is a greedy planet.
Something else that baffles me, strikes during recessions.
But of course, according to the government we must not be in a recession.
Carry on then...
i hope they strike, with a sign that says"my union was part of fifty million dollars donated to obama for election so we cant afford to pay for his insurance"
Don’tcha just hate it when working people assert their rights? That darned old union. Stupid workers who invented the middle class by forcing corporations to pay a fair rate. Buncha losers who introduced the 40 hour week, employer health care, and the week end. Dorks who ended child labor. McDonalds doesn’t have a union, or Wal-Mart. Look at their employees…why can’t nurses be like that?
WTF?... Hospitals are greedy corporations, is that what you are saying? Maybe they are, I don't know, but I don't think that county hospitals should be.
If you support them being unionized just smile when you get the bills and write the checks because it makes your care more expensive.
At least I can afford to shop at Walmart, too bad they don't fix hernias.
Anyway, not much for logs in the Pen Ply yard, wonder what the next news about them will be.
Lot of empty slips in the marina also.
I generally support unions... like WTF said, sometimes they present a good case... but striking for higher wages when so many are out of work and even more can't afford health care just seems greedy and inhumane.

We often suck at being humane, I'm pretty sure that we're just a bunch of F%^&#@* monkeys.
Let's ignore the fact that the decline in union membership is directly proportional to the decline in the American middle class. Let's ignore the fact that the decline in unions is inversely proportional to the concentration of wealth to the top five per cent of incomes. Let's ignore the fact that corporate donations to Republicans exceeds union contributions to Democrats. Let's just blame those damn unions for the fact that we are happy to send our jobs overseas as long as it means we can buy $69 DVD players and $19 shoes.
Unions served a purpose 100 years ago, even 60 years ago, but the unions have done nothing significant for employee rights since the 40's. The Federal Governments oversight has made the unions obsolete.
All the Unions care about now is collecting their union dues.
This strike isn’t about wages, so “cruel and inhumane “is not only an unfair characterization, it’ also irrelevant. Talk of “government safeguards for workers making unions obsolete” is pure hogwash. We saw earlier this week how much our government cares about the rights of citizens vs. the rights of corporations. The simple fact is that OMC, like so many corporations right now, is using the recession to screw their employees out of hard fought gains. The unions are simply fighting back, trying to hold the line. The ability of the working class to protect their interests has always been at the heart of the anti-union corporate interest. If the capitalist class can break the unions, we can all look forward to McDonald’s wages and Wal-Mart benefits.
Ditto, what WTF said!
