Light Up The Lincoln
Light Up The Lincoln is Scott Nagel's plan for raising $235,000 to purchase the shuttered Lincoln Theater in downtown Port Angeles and turn it into a nonprofit performing arts center.
He has until the end of March to gather the $235,000, hopefully from 235 donors giving $1,000 each. So far he's raised over $35,000 from “about 15 people.” People who pledge $1,000 will be designated as “founders.” Their names will be inscribed on a plaque in the theater lobby.

That will just be a start, what happens after that?
So he is having trouble raising the purchase price? Where is the money to then DO anything with it?
If they raise the money to purchase it, but can't raise the money EACH YEAR, then what?
What is amazing (among the MANY mind-numbingly stupid aspects of this proposal) to me is that Nagel and the PDN can stand up and say this with a straight face!
Seriously. Are we not adults, yet?
No dollar figures for what it will take to make this concept a reality are offered to the public. None. Just "Let's buy it, now", with no idea how much more it will take to fix it up, make it functional, annual operating and maintenance costs.
But, this shows us why Port Angeles doesn't move forward. If this demonstrates the accepted manner by which proposals are undertaken here, it is no wonder nothing ever actually happens. Why nothing gets past the talk stage.
How could it? What rational person is going to buy that "pig in a poke". To invest their money in something they are being told so little in actual facts and figures about?
Mr. Nagel and the PDN need actual figures of documented costs. Show actual bids from real contractors for what it is REALLY going to cost. Show the public what monthly heating, cooling, and other utility costs are going to be. Show the public what annual staffing costs are going to be, and in a manner to which they will be held accountable.
And, get contracts and commitments from those who are going to use this facility. Sure, they can be predicated on the facility actually getting built.
Show the public actual profit and loss statements, so they can have SOME DEGREE of confidence that they are investing in a VIABLE project.
At one meeting, Mr. Nagel assured the audience the Lincoln would be "turning a profit within 3 years of purchase". But, offered absolutely NO figures for the audience to see.
If this is a real proposal, then show the public basic respect, and provide the figures needed for them to make an intelligent decision.
This isn't a Cub Scouts "lets go climb that tall tree" project.
Is Port Angeles really so crime ridden? Porto Call site has an article listing the 15 Most Dangerous Cities in Washington, based on FBI crime statistics.
Port Angeles doesn't even make that list.
Sequim does, at number 14!

That is funny! Sequim "Crime Capital of Clallam County".
This shows us, once again, how the PDN and our leaders lie to us to get us to do what they want.
Look at that poll. All those people that fell for the lies. Sad.
"Sequim does, at number 14!"
Dat's interesting.
I'm waiting to see the moron from Revitalize Port Angeles stand up to say that Port Angeles really DOES have a serious crime problem, and the article the Port O Call has revealed is wrong.
Given their track record, I won't be disappointed.
Have you seen the latest Port O Call? Front page story about the Port Angeles Police Department.
Padding the payroll, and asking for more.
Great scam, I'll bet Nagel walks away with a couple thousand in this deal.
The building costs too much. It needs too much. It's ugly.
We need something downtown, but not that.
Yes, another example of what real sheep so many in Port Angeles really are.
Bend over and say BAAAAA.
