Rayonier and Peninsula Plywood Cleanup to be topic at PABA meeting

At this Tuesday's meeting of the Port Angeles Business Association, the guest will be Rebecca Lawson, southwest region toxics cleanup manager for the state Department of Ecology.  She will be updating the cleanup programs at the Peninsula Plywood and Rayonier sites and discussing the Port Angeles Harbor cleanup plan.

That should be really informative!

I remember going to a PABA meeting 10 years ago with Rebecca from Wa Dept. of Ecology there to "update" us all on this very topic.

I remember the blowhards in PABA telling us how THEY were going to hold Ecology's feet to the fire, get the Rayonier site cleaned up right away, and big industrial operations built there to create jobs.

Ten years later, we ended up with spending millions of tax dollars to build Cutler's Turd Tank there (and spending all those millions on that Tank o Crap has "taxed to the limits" area residents, and severely limited the city's ability to fund other projects we actually need), spending millions of tax dollars on "Harborworks" to attract all those big industrial businesses (who all said, No Thanks, Not in Port Angeles), and we still get to hear about the "updates" on the same topic from Rebecca at the PABA meetings!

PABA? A waste of time.

Ahhh, yes. It was a long, long time ago but memory has it that city leaders including the PABA did everything they could to prevent the EPA from designating the Rayonier property as a federally designated Superfund Site. They lobbied hard for the EPA to divert its responsibilities to the State Department of Ecology, because to do so would mean the cleanup would occur much, much faster, they claimed.
And, of course, having the state take over EPA's responsibilities would also avoid the spectre of people actually realizing the extent to which Rayonier had left the community with a legacy of toxic Superfund pollution.
So - the PABA will doubtless welcome Rebecca with open arms, because she and her agency are far more palatable than the EPA. Right?

Well, the Port just duped the Federal, State, and County out of all the money (4+ million) they need to finish their composite campus building. They should have lots of money to clean that shit hole up. If they really want to clean things up they need to move all log operations east of town, then the waterfront might start resembling a place of interest.

Speaking of the turd tank, people really should be composting their turds.

I found a great cafe here in Texas, that food will make great turds.

Ever watch cats screw? They spend an amazing amount of time screwing around to just do some screwing, reminds me of the PABA.
