Traffic Safety in Port Angeles
As we've been reading in the PDN, traffic accidents have been getting worse around here. With all those graduation parties approaching (and the summer tourists), we need to do something about this.
What's the solution? Road improvements? Stricter enforcement of traffic laws? Hiring more police officers? All of the above?
What do YOU think we should do?

They need to crack down on drivers who come blitzing through a crosswalk even when a pedestrian is in it. Whatever the fine is, it isn't enough, or it isn't being issued often enough.
The 18-wheelers need to be re-routed from the downtown area. Downtown sufferes because of them.
I wish they'd go after those slow drivers who clog up the left lane on 101. They build up a lot of rage and frustration for everybody else. They're the indirect cause of a lot of traffic accidents. In some countries in Europe you're required to get out of the fast lane when somebody behind you wants to get by. That's what we should be doing here.
I agree with the 2nd Anonymous (5/17 at 6:38 a.m.). We need to build that truck route. If it's called a truck route and not a "bypass" it won't siphon tourists and potential shoppers away from the downtown. The reduced traffic would make downtown a more inviting place to go.
Most accidents are caused by distractions and not speed. People who drive while they're eating or text messaging or blabbing on the phone or changing the CD (or all of the above at the same time) should be forced to take the bus for 6 months.
Yeah, "neighbor" is right -- I see people going down the road weaving 'cuz they're stuffing a taco in their mouth, they're on their cell phone, and simultaneously they're putting a new CD in the player. And they wonder why there are so many accidents!?*!%*!
