Flooding in Harbor Towne Mall Basement

Harbor Towne Mall — at the corner of Lincoln and Railroad Avenue — had flooding in the basement on Wednesday. The basement is vacant, but all street-level businesses needed to close early Wednesday evening. The Health Department had to make sure there wasn’t a sewage problem.

The Health Department confirmed that there was no sewer leakage and all businesses have re-opened. The businesses at Harbor Towne Mall include: Thai Pepper, India Oven, Spicer’s Deli and Grocery, and Real Estate Marketplace.

I didn't know there was a basement there. But does it really matter?

Sooner or later a big quake will hit here, if it hits during a really wet time like we just had the two hotels on the bluff above will end up downtown and that area will be a total mess.

Know how tidal waves work? I do, I was in Alaska for the big quake up there in 64. They don't always come crashing in, sometimes they come in slowly, and leave in a hell of a hurry.

Leaving boats and debris on the land and pulling out the buildings as it leaves.

And what about a hospital on the bluff and in the bay if a big quake hits when one is most needed? It took a real genius to come up with that brain fart.

I see that someone has a problem with my saying F**k and S**t. They might be a so called christian.

Hey, their just fucking words, ways of releasing pressure. Or would you prefer to be bombed?

Gateway probably had something to do with that flooding. Plus all the rain. Gateway, the gift that keeps on giving.

Gateway had nothing to do with it. The Harbor Towne Mall always floods it's basement and has for many years. Nothing new! They should have torn it down when making room for Gateway.

BBC is just an old fart without any real character. He has to use those words cause he has a very small vocabulary.
You will see him at vets park protesting...but what is he gonna protest now with his man Obamy in office?

The Gateway had nothing to do with it. That area has flooded in a similar fashion for years because the cheap owners of the mall continue to refuse to install some back flow preventative equipment that could have prevented the mess. Instead, they have tended to sit on their hands and attempt to point the finger at others in an effort to get a free fix. Good luck.

It's been flooding for years, well before the Gateway.

But I don't remember Sorenson's bike shop ever being flooded out down there. So something must have changed.

it's not a basement, BBC, it's the lower level to the mall...
if a big quake hits...it's going to flatten more than just a few motels...nothing in this area has been build with very stringent EQ standards. In fact, how many people have even strapped their waterheaters or put tie downs on their foundations? Amost NONE.
The Cascadia fault moves violently...but rarely. If it moves in our lifetimes....90% of everything will be flattened.
I'm sick of your cussing, honestly, it's rude.

Harbortown mall's flooding has nothing to do with the Gateway, it flooded there way, way BEFORE the Gateway work started.
The problem is old plumbing, and probably a poorly maintained sewer (by the city) and we don't have enough capacity in the sewage treatment for when we get torrential rains.

I'm glad they didn't tear down the Harbor Towne Mall; it's a beautiful building. They should do some backflow prevention, though. At this point there's nobody clamoring to rent that basement space, but I believe times will get good again and it could be usable space.

That Harbor Towne place is just pure, unadulterated ugly ... as is Railroad Avenue.

I can't imagine why anyone really cares what BBC says. The fact that he pushes so many people's collective buttons is pretty funny, though!

I find it amusing that some people are offended by swearing.

I also find it amusing that some people jump to conclusions about me when they don't personally know me.

The most intelligent people in this town, that know me, don't have any problem with me at all.

you know, the problem with BBC isn't so much that he posts moronic drivel, it's the fact that he puts up his mug, and posts so damn much!
He's the Archie Bunker of Port Angeles! Pathetic and narrow minded, but old-fartish and sure of what he says (obviously, he's not educated, and never did care to become so). He's what is wrong with America....
Opinions are like assholes, and this blog has BBC

I find the uproar over BBC really amusing.

But then so is this blog which is just a series of linked articles to the PDN website and the occasional personal commentary by the blog owner. It's hardly an "alternative" source of information in PA.

As for the comments by the ubiquitous "Anonymous", these range from gossip and inuendo, character assasination and just plain nonsense. Who are all you people? I dare you to come out from behind your "Anonymous" personas and put your real names to some of these rude, assinine and pathetic comments.

What? No? Yeah, well I didn't think so.

At least BBC has the guts to post under his own name, which is more than can be said for the lot of you cowards.

Regards,

A Nonny Moose

Nonny,
welcome to the web.
AS for annon or not....who cares.
As for BBC...I get weary of his rants. If he'd post occasionally, or once on a subject instead of several times in a row, it wouldn't be so bad. And, the cussing gets old, as do the sexist b.s. that he seems to think is cute. YAWN About as cute as a hang-nail.

"Anonymous 12:12", the Moose opines that you have created a perfect strawman argument. Good show!

Have you ever considered simply ignoring BBC?

Mayhap your passive-aggressive victimhood is a bit, as the French say, de trop ... if only around the edges.
