Murray Motors Closing?

This is a list of fifteen Chrysler dealers in Washington that are on the chopping block. Murray Motors is on the list.

The article includes: “The dealers likely will have a right to appeal to get off the list.”

Let’s hope Murray Motors can stay open. They’ve been here since 1934. Everyone there is very friendly and they provide excellent service at low prices.

And just out of pure selfishness: if you own a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge, where will you go for repairs?

Here is their website.

Sorry, but small town Chrysler dealerships are pretty much history. If they want to stay in business they will have to come up with another plan.

I think Chrysler is making the wrong move. The large mega chains (like AutoNation) are jerks, and who wants to do business with jerks. Plus, there is no way I care to drive from here to 3 hours somewhere else for warranty service. I'd rather just buy something else...
Chrysler is toast..they're idiots, and this is just another in a long line of idiot moves.

I am sad to see businesses fail.

I bought a new American-made truck in Jan of '85.

I still drive it today. I am OK with "buy American", but I think that loyalty should be a 2-way street with consumers.

I lived in an auto plant town in Indiana for a while when my truck was new. Some of the attitudes in that 2 factory small town seemed to emphasize a sense of entitlement.

How will auto-bailout money create demand for the product?

They should be able to keep the shop going for a few years, or longer. That may keep them somewhat going until they can come up with plan 32A.

With the economy going the way it continues to go I think that folks will keep their rigs longer and they will need repairs.

But if they do close the doors I don't think the mechanics will have much trouble finding new jobs in independent shops.

There will just be some salesmen out of work and the loss of some taxes going to the city that they didn't plan for because they think it's still business and usual and everything is going to be rosy.

I wouldn't take any bets on that, it appears that the great American experiment is failing.

Why do you think the "foreign" makes are doing ok? UNIONS! Toyota, Nisan, Hyundai, Honda, etc. are NON-UNION shops...they don't have to pay their U.S. workers $80+ frickin dollars an hour...just $40-50...more than an adequate wage. And they aren't forced by the damn unions to pay for every little ache and pain that their workers wanna go to the emergency room for.

I sort of agree with Pam, in general I have no problems with unions because they help lift everyone up, but when they get too greedy that is wrong.

As I understand it, if Murray motors does keep the service department open Chrysler won't pay them to do warranty repairs, that's pure bullshit.

I suppose that Chrysler won't even have to take back the parts they as much as forced them to stock so they will be stuck with a hundred thousand dollars or so in parts unless they can move them.

Or take back the special tools they have to buy every year because the manufactures insist that they have those tools.

there is a reason American car makers are in this financial shape....they make stupid decisions and are arrogant about it.
This closing of dealerships is arbitrary, and they have no "review" period. They don't know how it will effect the communities. Instead they are looking at pure dollars and who moves what...giving preference to AutoNation (the big sleezeball chain dealers).
There is no reason for there to be over a dozen dealers within miles of each other in the San Francisco Bay area, more than two dozen in the LA Area and a half dozen in the Seattle Area. If they eliminated some of those, they'd strengthen the network without this strong focus on urban and cutting out non-urban dealers.
Dodge/Chrysler are morons....may they go into bankruptcy and fade into oblivion.
They can't think their way out of a paper bag.

It's three years later & they are still open! So glad that they didn't close. I always go there when I need my car worked on. It's the best place in town! I hope they will be able to weather this bad economy & stay around for years to come. Great people & great place!!!
