Harbor-Works Gets The Money

The Port of Port Angeles has approved a $500,000 loan to Harbor-Works Development Authority.

Interim Port Executive Director Bill James will have the discretion to decide how to pay for $160,000 of the loan. The Port's 2009 budget already has $200,000 committed to the Public Development Authority. It also has $140,000 remaining from $200,000 that was allocated in 2009 to "flexible projects."

How to cover the remaining $160,000? Either by taking out an advance on the Port's 2010 budget, or by taking money from 2009 projects that probably won't be completely spent.

James said: "I can't tell you exactly which ones they are, and exactly what categories they're going to come out of. The $160,000 could come from either one of those sources."

All I have to figure out how to pay for things is my beer and camping fees. It's real simple to me, I either have the money or I don't. Thankfully, I always have the money. If I didn't I would do without.

I bought a cell phone.
Got my land line number transferred to it because I'm dumping Qwest. Cell phones make me look like an idiot, I can't even figure out how to enter contacts in it. The instruction books suck and are of little help, and the print is too small. Cell phones should come with a DVD so you can watch an instructor showing you how to do things on one so that it doesn't take you hours trying to learn how to use it's features. Someone should be able to make some decent money selling DVD's showing others how to use them, I'd buy one being as I seem to be too frigging stupid to figure out how to use one.

I guess you have to be a special kind of stupid to be able to rebuild an automatic transmission and use computers and not be able to figure out how to use a cell phone. There's more damn buttons on it than you can shake a stick at and pushing the wrong one just screws thing up.

OMG! I'm SO surprised!

Now, are you holding your breath, waiting to see what the city council does on the 18th?

Were there not just a bunch of articles in the PDN about the city's budget shortfalls? The city manager meeting with residents to hear their ideas on how to get through the budget problems? Oh, that must have been about another city.

Harbor Works is something that never should have been started. It was created without Public input.

Why do they persist in putting money into Harbor Works for the "maybe" that they can develop the former Rayonier Site years dowon the road?

A worthy goal would be to find a way to have our City be run by people who represent all of us in the community, and not just those with business interests.

Harbor Works is only for business interests.

Big surprise indeed. Why is it that everything we the people want has to be cut -- gee, we're sorry, but we've got no funds -- and yet every white elephant like Harbor Works and Gateway can be funded? What is wrong with this picture? The City Council, Mayor, Port Authority, Planning Commission -- THESE PEOPLE WORK FOR US! When did we all forget that fact?

Hey, I think that anyone in the county should be allowed in city elections also being as what the city does effects all of us.

We sure have stupid political systems.

Max Mania will work for everyone, not just a select few!

Ballots are already rolling in from voters who are fed up with "business as usual" politics and those "candidates" who pursue this tired, stale path.

We'll know for sure come August 18th, but the voters will speak and the name they'll be saying will be Max Mania!

Yeah, and in a few years we'll be calling him Mania Max, he he he. After all, you have to be bat shit crazy to get into politics anyway.

If you're not, you will be after getting into them. I don't want to be in politics, I want to be the king. And so do the rest of you.

When you get into politics they just make you a member of the good old boys/gals club of politics, or you only last one term, too little effect.

I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member.

Of course, we all will be watching the city council members as they vote to give HarborWorks ANOTHER $500,000 on August 18th, right?

Isn't there an election going on for council members? Isn't an incumbant running? Will they be rewarded for their votes on HarborWorks with re-election by the voters in Port Angeles? Has anyone gotten a straight answer out of Max Mania about his support or lack there of, for HarborWorks?

Oh, yeah, this is Port Angeles. Only the people with direct personal interests bother to be involved.

You know, the Port is loaning Harborworks half a million for what amounts to the salary of a few people. That money wouldn't be paid back for years, possibly decades, possibly even never. On the other hand, PenPly is a much more likely bet that will benefit P.A. within a year or two. Yet, I don't know, the terms PenPly has to jump through... it's probably standard, but comparing the two side-by-side, it seems a little harsh next to the deal HarborWorks's administrator is getting.

You can get a traight answer from Max Mania on any subject. It's those other candidates that won't give straight answers!

Okay, here is the question for "Team Max": If he were on the city council now, would he vote to give HarborWorks the $500,000 they are currently asking the council for? Yes, or no.

we can't even keep our local government honest....the country is doomed. Get out your pitchforks and lanterns, we need to tar and feather some people and run them out of town.

Will be interesting to see what the 5 unions say (see PDN article today) about taking cuts in pay and benefits to help the city save $400,000.

Gee, that is most of what the city will be giving to HarborWorks, only a week or so before the unions respond. I'm sure their membership wants to help gamble with money that is so hard to come by, these days.

Hey, Team Max! Still waiting for a "straight answer" about how Max would vote on the $500,000 for HarborWorks.

"Edna Petersen, Rick Burton, Max Mania and Peter Ripley are vying to move on to the general election."

Yes, the public will be reminded of Max's response (or lack there of) should he make it past the primary election.
