The Answer For Youth

This is the name of a non-profit organization that will open on October 5th. The group — which goes by its initials, TAFY — will be providing emotional and spiritual help to at-risk young people.

They’ll be located at 711 East Second Street in Port Angeles. The building will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. The group is all volunteers, and they’re reaching out to people in the 13-24 age bracket.

Susan Hillgren is the president of TAFY, and Pam Fosnes is the treasurer. Donations can be made to TAFY at any branch of First Federal.

I'm not keen on any young person finding their spirituality in a church even though I suppose the organization means well.

I am aware that the youth in this country see no hope for a future for themselves so they take to risky things like drugs and such.

Just because it works for folks like Thompson Hunter doesn't mean it works for everyone.

Much of the current young generation were raised spoiled and taught that they are entitled and deserved to have the best.

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way, you have to work hard and smart and earn your way through this life.

And things are changing and they have to adjust to that and it seems that many are not taking to that.

May we live in interesting times. And may they learn to be okay with as little as I have and be okay with it.

And may they learn to help others.

It sounds like a waste of money. The forced 'spirituality' is always just lip service, and, many of the youth will not be interested, and therefore not be helped.
Anyway, all these good intentions ....never do give the solution to the problem: lack of skills training, and lack of any future/jobs/hope for these kids. Educationally they've failed, because the schools are ineffective. Drugs seem like one way out of the boredom. These kids have no place in society, and they know it....might as well get high, eh?

"These kids have no place in society, and they know it."

Well, maybe they should make their place in society. They can't have their hand held forever.

Geezz.. Have you all forgotten when you were young, and what kinds of things you did ( or most of your friends did), because you wanted to be accepted into the group?

Most take drugs, or drink, or do most of the other dumb things youth do.. because of peer pressure. They have to do these things to prove to "the group" that they are not "nerds", "geeks", "straight", "loser", or what other name the others will label you as.

And, I agree. Most kids that will find "help" at "The Answer.." are not the real problem kids. Those who are wanting to be accepted into the "cool" groups will not be caught dead at a church sponsored youth help center! They might as well tattoo the big "L" on their foreheads.

Yes, it is well intentioned, but.

I used to go eat spagettu with the Hare Krishnas back when I was in college and had no money. Never managed to convert me. It is good to have a place for kids to go that is safe. I sincerely hope it does not become a haven for drug addicts and homeless kids camping out and... availing themselves of other people's belongings. Seems these places often devolve into that. If it does, I hope they get booted. If they do good, I will deliver some ramen.

I am so grateful for "The answer for youth". Although my age is a little older than what they are aiming to help, they still helped me every time with Food, clothing, camping supplies and even helped with medication purchase. Thank you Susan and everyone behind the scenes. LOVE
Rob Dann
