Tentative New Agreement Between Rayonier and Ecology Department

A cleanup agreement has been drafted between Rayonier Inc. and the Department of Ecology.

Rayonier received a copy of the agreement two days ago and has 60 days to negotiate the details. Under the agreement, Rayonier would have to finish taking soil samples on its property. They would also have to develop a cleanup plan for the 75-acre property and a portion of Port Angeles Harbor extending about one mile northeast of the property.

The cleanup plan has been delayed because Rayonier and the Department of Ecology haven't been able to agree on how large an area Rayonier is responsible for cleaning up.

Will be interesting to see what the stories about this are, a year from now. Rayonier has been stalling the clean up from the beginning. Will it be different now, now that they have a clueless "buyer" chomping at the bit to take the problem property off their hands? We'll certainly see..

Well, the headline sounds great, but the details... Geez. So in over ten years the best we can squeeze out of Rayonier is a tentative agreement for them to take soil samples and someday work out a cleanup plan? Wow. Color me less than impressed.

And, what does the amazing Mr. Lincoln have to say about this? Is he behind the curtain? Will he again appear and speak?

Get ready for the "there are a lot of Rayonier retirees living here. Rayonier cannot pay for a cleanup and pay the retirees too."
What do you want to bet they will pull that one again.

Nah, they have a "Live One"!! After ten years of boom economic times when borrowed money was free and easy, but even then no one wanted to risk their futures on that place, Rayonier has the city falling all over themselves and spending the big bucks to convince the public what a great deal that property is! Are you KIDDING!! The Rayonier CEO came flying out here a few months ago.. I'm sure to see for himself that this wasn't a corporate wet dream.

This is the absolute best situation Rayonier could ever have hoped for. A public buyer with unlimited "deep pockets" for a problem property they could not unload on anyone else.

And, to top it all off, the local chumps think the pig in the poke is the best deal ever!

The folks at Rayonier are probably dancing every day, with every headline they read in the PDN. If not, they should be.

Yawns, they have been playing that card game for over ten years, and so far they seem to be holding their own.

It's just a matter of time until someone wants it so bad that they are willing to take over whatever needs to be done to clean it up.

Like the idiots that runs this city, only they will want you to pay for it, or for the whole country to help pay for it.

And then the natives will put a stop to any new project proposed for it and we'll end up giving it back to them, ha ha ha.

Whatever will justify his wages, you can bet your booty that he is seeking new employment anyway as he works his way to the top.

Life is like a can of mixed nuts, the big ones work their way to the top seeking always bigger wages and rewards while telling you how wonderful they are for you.

And in politics, we are stuck with voting for those fuckers.

BBC: You make a lot of sense. How stupid do the City Managers think we are? Better question: How stupid ARE we? After all, we're the bozos who keep allowing this to happen to us.

Here is an idea. Why doesn't our city press ecology to do their freaking job and FORCE rayonier to clean up their mess. I read that the toxicity is a 2 on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the worst. WHY is this still around? And what about their dump sites up the hill on Mt. Pleasant? Ecology is getting tough with PA about their waste water and will be heavily penalizing overflow in a couple years, but decades can pass with a level 2 toxic waste site sitting along our waterfront, poisoning the harbor bed and we all go tromping through there like it is a pristime little venue?

ARGH!
