Rayonier: “Give Us Your Tax Dollars And Stay Off Our Property”

Starting today and continuing through next Monday, four specially-trained dogs will be sniffing along the Port Angeles waterfront, trying to find Native American remains. City Archaeologist Derek Beery said, “The dogs are trained specifically to smell the residue that's left when a human being decomposes.” The dogs are being supplied by Canine Forensics.

This survey will lead to an archaeological management plan for Port Angeles and local property owners. The search will cover 872 acres between Ediz Hook and the western edge of the Rayonier property.

There’s a reason the search stops at the western edge of the Rayonier property and doesn’t include the property itself: Rayonier is not allowing the dogs or any archaeologists onto their property.

Rayonier officials were not available for comment.

Damn right, that is PRIVATE PROPERTY! Of course liberals like yourself don't understand that term...perhaps because you don't wanna work hard enough to have your own.
There's probably old bones under the entire downtown...are you willing to give it all up to the tribe?
Wake up.

Ha ha ha ha......

Sally, you like labels like Liberal? In the house of mirrors there is little difference between a so called liberal and a so called conservative.

I really don't get the dog thing, any remains are hundreds of years old and I don't see how dogs can sniff them out after all that time.

Of course there are remains there. May as well just make it easy on everyone and give it to them so they can build a casino and whorehouse on it.

They spend just as much of the money they make in this town as the rest of us do and they would get something going faster than anyone else is going to be able to.

I will say, because I've said it many times before. The natives need to give up the idea that the spirits hang around in old bones. It's just plain nonsense to believe that.

Sally: I assume you're also strongly against any local tax dollars going to Rayonier or Harbor-Works, since that of course would be Socialism.

Any decent and fair government would be some decent form of socialism. Not that such a government has been created yet, there is too much greed on this rock for that.

As for labels, I'm okay with - Asshole. :-)

In the beginning, a sort of socialism built this country. The more or less mommy and daddy government came up with decent waterworks and electrical systems, sewage systems and things like that.

Even the phone lines, but that was before many started getting greedy. Putting those things in the hands of capitalists isn't going to make those things cheaper.

Even government ran programs these days have union members that want more, like fire departments, and this drives up the costs for such.

I know folks that pay around sixty bucks a month in charges for their cell phones. Hello !!!!

I turn mine on once a day to see if there are any missed calls or messages. The world isn't going to frigging fall apart if I don't get a message right away.

Now we can add the local tribes to the list of people Rex and Sally don't like. This shows they're equal opportunity bigots.

None of our tax money should go to Rayonier or Harbor Works. Harbor Works should be immediately dissolved.

Rayonier doesn't want to remove any concrete. They know how toxic it is underneath. It could cost billions to clean it up. It really costs little for them to just maintain ownership and do nothing but pay property taxes on vacant land.

If they can't pawn it off on someone else I suppose you are correct. Is the super fund program still in effect or is it broke?

'Sally' is a marroon.

I don't know Sally, so I don't know who and what she is. But what I'm really interested in is, what in the hell is a marroon?

Sally, are you at ALL aware of what is going on with that "private property"? That a TAXPAYER funded entity is doing "due diligence" studies to see if there are any valid reasons not to WASTE TAXPAYER MONEY on a scam?

That one of the studies being conducted RIGHT NOW is an archaeological survey of that "private property", the former Rayonier mill site?

YOU are not concerned that YOUR tax monies will be spent.. MILLIONS of dollars.. on a property that the owners will not allow studies done upon?

You are NOT concerned that millions of tax payer dollars will be spent to aquire a property with the acknowledged burials larger than those that resulted in the Graving Dock fiasco?

And, don't you have any respect for the laws of the United States? The existing laws say human remains have to be afforded respect. Yours, and others.

These "conservatives" make NO sense to me!

Every time there is a big money scam going down, they are silent, or ridiculing those sounding alarms. But if there is some trivial issue that some how can entail deriding "liberals" or "treehuggers", boy, they are right there to start the insults.

Don't they care about the country and it's future?

Tom, I'm glad you posted this. When In first read it this morning, my partner almost called the parimedics as I laughed, puked, and skreiked all at the same time.

Really, the people of Washington should be writing to their legislative representatives to complain about this absolute outrage. It is one thing to get suckered into buying a piece of property with problems you were too dumb to research beforehand. Shame on you. But here, we have Jeff Lincoln, representing the taxpayers, saying "We're just going to look through what we might find in the library and newspapers to find out about any burials and archeaological issues, although we KNOW there are burials and "artifacts" there, and based on that, we're going to buy a property for millions of dollars (directly, or indirectly), and hope that developers in the future will undertake the problems like the State faced with the Graving Dock". Not to mention it was a national "SuperFund Cleanup" toxics site. A real gem.

At what point are public representatives held responsible for things like this? Do we just sit back, and whatch this train wreck we all will be paying for? This is just NUTS!

Just a thought...

If the city acquires that property Rayonier won't have to pay taxes on it anymore, correct?

I don't know what the city is collecting for taxes off of them but it seems to me that they can't afford the loss of any revenue at this time.

Why not just let it sit there as is for another five or ten years? It's not like we really need it for anything else other than maybe a dog park.

Hmm, come on to my property to look for reasons to take it away from me, and most likely without compensation?

Now there is a situation that will not end well.

Rayonier would love for city to condemn/sieze that property through the use of the recently enhanced 'eminent domain'principles or for ANY reason.

Regardless, the ever suffering taxpayer will pay for any so-called "cleanup"; one way or another.

Whatever supposed carcinogins are out there have already leached into the water table or are not a hazard unless the earth is churned up through new construction?

A 'park',dog or otherwise,is the best use of that abandoned property.
