Streamkeepers Looking For Volunteers
The Clallam County Community Development Department needs volunteers to help with storm tracking, stream sampling and for cooking meals. This is to help Streamkeepers of Clallam County in their development of a countywide stormwater plan.
If you want to work outdoors, you can collect stormwater samples from rushing overflowing rivers. If you’d rather work inside, you could process these samples for nutrients, sediment and bacteria. Or you could do data entry and statistical analysis of the samples. Or you could cook for the other volunteers.
For more information, call Streamkeepers of Cllallam County at 360-417-2281; or check out their website.

Streamkeepers is a super group!
Hum - cook for the other volunteers.
I'll consider that, maybe they need someone like me with a camper that can set up fast and cook in the field. I let my food handlers card expire a few years ago but maybe they don't care about that.
On a walk today I went by the Port Angeles Welcomes You sign.
I can't agree with Jackson that it needs thousands of dollars of repairs and needs to be replaced.
I contend that a few volunteers with a few hours to spare and some good paint would have it looking spiffy for another ten or twenty years.
Cost, 100 bucks for good paint, tops.
It should of course go without saying that I don't care what Jackson would like to sell to the city. I'm interested in what happens to the taxpayers in the city and what it costs them.
I don't live in the city so maybe I shouldn't care, but I do. Jackson doesn't live in the city either, but he loves you, well, your money anyway, ha ha ha.
Maybe the first businesses that should be considered for city projects should be those that actually live in the city?
Wait, Andrew May doesn't live in the city limits either, never mind.
And all those things should be done by bid anyway, or at the least a vote by the folks that will be paying for them instead the good old boys and girls club in PA spending your money for you because Jackson and May is members of the club.
Hahaha....
Billy...you crack me up. hahaha
Well...the only part you got right was our names.
Where did you get that I think the repairs will cost thousands? We ARE the volunteers doing the repairs to the welcome sign. The city is paying NOTHING!! It has been adopted by the Port Angeles Business Accociation. We voted and all present at the meeting agreed. We will maintain, paint, clean, pick-up trash, weed and do whatever needs to be done.
The pond is next to be cleaned, we are trying to fix the leak if we can find it. The sign was re-painted and part of the letters that say "Greet the sea" has been raised above the tree that was planted in front of it. We also have to replace some plants that didn't make it thru last winter.
So there Billy....now you have the whole story from me so you can stop spreading your version of what is happening to the Welcome Sign and feel good that we are not spending any of the taxpayers money you are so zealously trying to protect. hahaha
You know also that you always make me laugh with your rants about something you know very little about. SO..... if you want to volunteer to help on the sign....come back to PABA, pay your dues and let's get to work!
You can even park your camper in Thurmans lot and fix us food...wouldn't that be nice?
But NO grumbling allowed! You have to learn to play well with others....that is still a lesson you need to learn....or not.
Which raises the point... why aren't projects like this up for bid?
I don't know my history on the sign Jackson did by the Coho... was that up for bid or just awarded with no input? Where did the money come from?
Was driving through downtown this evening around 6 pm, and it was so empty! Looked up Lincoln, and down First street, and there were NO cars to be seen, and only one person walking on the sidewalk.
Wow!
Where did you get that I think the repairs will cost thousands?
I read it somewhere, maybe in the local fish wrap.
Yeah Billy, pay your dues so you can volunteer.Sheeh.
I also have a copy of an email from 2003 that was accidentally sent to me by mistake indicating that the editor of the local fish wrap isn’t that fond of ecologists. He’ll give them some news and pay service to what they say but only cuz he has to. With him it’s build, build, build, grow, grow, grow. *rolls eyes*
The Welcome Sign at the Coho was proposed by me as the second of three welcome signs at the entrances to Port Angeles. The third to go at the west entrance sometime in the future. The mural at the Coho was paid for in part by private donations and in part by the Lodging Tax Revenue Fund. Every time someone stays a night in a hotel or motel, they pay a small tax. One of the basic requirements requires that this project support or expand tourism or improve Port Angeles as a tourism destination.
No...this project was proposed by me, I secured private funding, and applied to the tax fund for partial funding to complete the project. It does not require that you put it out to bid. It is NOT funded by any city taxes, the city just handles the funding thru an application process. It then goes to a committee for review and approval. No backroom deals or favors. It was completly open and honest. (as some here would like to believe otherwise) I hope this clears up any misconceptions about how I get projects done in this community. The Welcome to Port Angeles sign at Thurmans was funded by the Soroptimist club and other private funding.
Thanks for asking "Anonymous 11:08"
I am always happy to answer any questions you may have. If you are interested, you can see our work on our website at jacksonsignartstudio.com
Jackson
why does Jackson get all the sign business? Why isn't it opened to bid...to all the various artists and graphic artists in town?
Too much looks the same, just like the rusted art. Bland
Simple.
I apply for them. I do the work to get the funding and then do the work of completing the project.
Anyone can do this...you have to go about the process in the right way. It is open to anyone who has the vision and can meet the requirements.
It does NOT reguire a process of bidding it out to all the artists and graphic artists in the community.
....and please quit whining about me getting all the sign business. I have had this business for 26 years and I have survived by doing one project at a time. I can't do ALL of the signs as there are other sign companies here also. We must share what little work there is so we can all survive....especially these days.
Bland? hmmmmmm......and your point is?
I sure like Jackson's art alot more than Stokes' with those hideous rusting pieces of crap on the sidewalk downtown!
That's cuz Jackson had a "in" with Edna and certain other City Council peeps.
Jackson, thanks for clarifying that. Seems like there's too many "higher up" people in Port Angeles who are afraid of this blog and afraid of addressing questions. It's nice when someone tackles things head on.
There's too damn many artsy fartsy types in this town anymore, export them to Port Townsend, ha ha ha
What a bunch of whining liberals on this blog. You all certainly fit the mold...going after a small businessman who is just trying to make a profit and feed his family amidst all the regulation your ilk places on him. Hey...not everyone can collect welfare!
What a bunch of whining liberals on this blog.
In the house of mirrors there is little difference between a liberal and a conservative.
I have no problem with business people making a moderate living, just with them wanting better than they need.
In my continuing efforts to improve the area and get rid of those that want too much I would like to propose some more signs.
Exit signs. :-)
I'm sure Jackson appreciates your coming to his defence, Rex.
"... amidst all the regulation your ilk places on him."
I'm sure you meant regulations, in the plural. Your misspelling is understandable in light of your unending vitriol (look that word up) directed against what you perceive to be the tyranny of big gubberment. You're a rebel, Rex. A true individualist. I'm sure "Sally" admires you greatly.
But anyway ... since you are so in the know on these things tell me, exactly what regulations have been placed on poor old Jackson?
Please be specific and not just rail "agin th' libbral" ... we know you can spout the propaganda yo've been indoctrinated with in even it's rudimentary (take a moment to Google that word) form.
I'm not going to spoon feed you questions to respond to. As articulate, educated person I expect you ought to be able to formulate a coherant, logical response. You are, after all, the local intellectual titan of the conservative cause.
REX!
Wow. How old are you?
Cut back on the salt, you'll be able to pee easier.
