I read the article, and the pathetic comment from "Grey Girl", or what ever she calls herself.

She says that the "Board" should get off their asses, and not pawn off all these activities to volunteers. Obviously, this bright light of the Peninsula does not know what is actually going on, and how much work the "Board" actually does.

Like the Teabaggers, she seems to like to spout angry, accusatory rhetoric without personally involving herself in the operations needed to provide the basic services in our communities. They tend to be "single issue" whiners, who obviously don't understand, or care that "community" is made up of hundreds of different services, programs, staff, budgets, projects, planning, procurement, etc ALL with their needs for the Boards' attention.

There are 4 positions on the County Planning Commission, for example. If this woman thinks it is all so easy, she should sign on, and see for herself the mountains of reports, rules, regulations and studies she needs to be conversant in, in order JUST to volunteer to help her community with that ONE element of "community".

Of course, she can't fathom that "community" is made up of people who care about the well being and future of the community they live in, and understand that "community" is made up of a bunch of individuals all doing what they can to make it all work!

And yet, no one will even volunteer to make a comment here - which might tell you how much enthusiasm there is in the community for applying.

Which is a shame, because this sort of apathy very much lends itself to the same old good old boys continuing to run the show - without opposition, without meaningful oversight. And without your best interests in mind.

(And, before someone asks: Yes, I DO serve on groups such as these.)

I agree. Our Country is run by the people who show up! My experience is that it is almost always the same, very busy, people who volunteer to sit on all of the advisory boards and committees, and they end up having most of the input into all the local decisions. All the gripers (who don't bother to show up or volunteer) who think that their sarcastic comments after the fact have any weight, are sadly mistaken.

Interestingly, Tom decided not to post my comments to this topic. It is not that I did not "volunteer" an opinion. Actually, it was quite lengthy, and was critical of those who do not feel an obligation to contribute to the community they live in.

Oh well.

I haven't deleted or rejected any comments to this post. If you left a comment that didn't get printed, maybe Blogger is having problems (it happens).

Hope you'll try again. I haven't rejected any comments here for a week or two (3 guesses who that was).
