Fluoride Opponents Overruled Again by State Supreme Court

The State Supreme Court will not reconsider its earlier ruling, from last September, that Port Angeles' water fluoridation cannot be challenged by a citizens' initiative.

What seems to be ignored here are peoples' democratic rights.

The US holds itself up to the rest of the world, and even goes to war to oust governments so it can impose "democracy" on people elsewhere.

We send "observers" to ensure that "fair" elections are held. We very loudly criticize countries that restrict their peoples' rights.

But here, in the US, it is a different matter. Here, as we see with this case, the peoples' desire to speak to these issues are being denied.

Dozens of residents talked with their fellow residents of Port Angeles, and thouands signed the petitions to be able to vote on the issue. What clearer demonstration of a local population's desires is more valid, or obvious?

But, slowly, the American Democracy is being changed, one law at a time. Slowly, what the forefathers envisioned is being changed so as not to be recognizable.

Who cares? With a new electronic gizmo in hand (made in China) to keep us entertained/distracted, we just sit back, oblivious.

Conclusions: The results indicated that fluoride in drinking water was highly correlated with serum fluoride, and higher fluoride exposure may affect intelligence among children

This was from a study published recently by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, part of the National Institues of Health.
But then again, when the mill was in operation, the pooh bahs in PA could have cared less about the health of the children.

Get real...have you ever taken a good look at most of the peoples' teeth around here (those who grew up here)? This area has some of the most NASTY teeth in the USA! Ewww!
All because you've never had fluoride added to your water until now!

I grew up with fluoride in my water, and I'd say I'm OK. Graduated HS at top of my class and college with a 3.86 GPA. And I have beautiful teeth!
Stop listening to the enviro whack-jobs. They're feeding ya large heapings of BS.

I guess buying fluoride toothpaste, and brushing ones' teeth is too obvious a solution, right "Sally"?

I guess applying the "medicine" to what you're trying to treat, appropriately, is just TOO logical?

It is like putting acne cream in the public water supply!

Drinking fluoride has NO anti-cavity benefits. No one disputes this. It doesn't work by going through your stomach, in your bloodstream, and to your teeth. It IS an acknowledged poison (read your tube of toothpaste), and drinking it DOES have a toxic effect.

So, a construction laborer on a hot day, or a high school footballer might go through a LOT more water than an office worker in an airconditioned building.

An average person gets up in the morning, brushes their teeth using fluoride toothpaste, and fluoridated water. Makes coffee or tea with that fluoridated water. Goes to work where they drink water or coffee/tea through the day, that was made with fluoridated water. Goes to a cafe or resturant, food cooked using flouridated water, glass of water on the table, fluoridated water.

Gets home and takes a good long bath, soaking in fluoridated water. Dinner cooked with fluoridated water. Wash down food with fluoridated water. Brush teeth again with fluoride tooth paste and fluoridated water.

Or maybe different variations. Are all bottled soft drinks made with fluoridated water? Infant formula?

Or other folks that drink very little water, and are couch potatoes.

How is this "controlled"?

It isn't.

I have nothing against using fluoride in toothpaste. But I think it is reckless to indiscriminantly dispense it in a public water system.

I see fluoride as more of a personal issue than something the government needs to wrap its tentacles around. But, they're from the government and they're here to help you. Right, Republican fluoride supporters?

Liberal losers and whiners, get over yourselves! Quit wasting taxpayer money on trying to create your hippie scialist utopia!

Thank GOD we have some sensible people on the State Supreme Court!!!

If you have no problem with adding flouride to the water to "help solve a problem," then I trust you'll have no objections to adding drugs to treat high and low blood pressure, chemicals to help fight depression, and whatever manner of birth control is deemed "safe" for public consumption. Then, once we have everyone evened out, mellowed out, and sterilized, it won't really matter what happens to anyone's teeth anymore. Ah, paradise!

Just about every municipal water system in the US has added fluoride. Get over it, you're never gonna change it.

The Socialists don't want you to have teeth. It's that simple. Why? Because part of their "eco-animal-friendly" agenda is the banning of eating meat. You need teeth to eat meat, but you don't need teeth to eat tofu!

drink bottled water if you don't like it, or you could move the central Africa and get bugs and germs instead

Typical.

Once again, you prove for all to see how you are right on top of what is going on in your country.

I'm sure that by the time your rights as an American have been "ammended" and "re-interpreted" by successive courts enough, you'll start screaming about "the Liberal Agenda", "The Liberal Media" and any other insult you can fling to absolve yourself for not doing anything useful.

It doesn't have to really mean anything, or help the community you live in. Just keep slinging those insults. I guess you're impressing SOMEONE (besides yourself?).

Hey, nutcake liberal!

Thanks for your smug, superior, I-know-better-than-you-because-I-went-to-Berkely(before I dropped out to become a smelly hippie) posts.

You haven't proved anything about fluoridated water. Other than you're a smug, superior, ex-smelly hippie and you don't like people having healthy teeth.

As for "helping the community" there are plenty of people who see through your leftist anti-everything agenda and we're being vocal about stopping it. I call ridiculing your BS agenda, demanding you show some facts and proof "helping the community".

As for "slinging insults" well, we know all about you high minded Libs. I mean, you'd never accuse someone of "influence peddling" without showing proof, would you? I mean, you'd never pile on a successful business (realtors, Pen Ply, ACTI) or endlessly pick on two successful business women (Karen and Edna), would you? I mean, your guy on the City Council would never post trash talk and gossip on this blog under an assumed name, would he?

Oh no. You Libs always take the high road, don't you?

Go back and smoke another bowl, nutcake!

Drinking fluoride has NO anti-cavity benefits.

I know a lot of folks that have moved here in recent years and seen their teeth go to hell since moving here argue your point with you.

Maybe fluoride treatments will work just fine but you need to constantly educate those new to areas without fluoride in the water that they are not getting any and need to do some treatment on their own.

Geez, Sally, my teeth are not ugly, I had them all ripped out, and I don't miss them a damn bit, I'm a lot healthier without them poisoning my body.

Some of the things dentists tell us to keep making money for their fancy lives is just bullshit.

To all the "republicans" on here talking about how the anti-fluoride crowd is a bunch of liberal nutters wasting taxpayer money by trying to kill government-sponsored fluoride:

Please explain why, exactly, it has to be the government's responsibility to give people fluoride? Why can't people go out and, say, buy their own damn toothpaste. Why do we have to pay for a bunch of cheap lazy-asses who can't be bothered to do something basic like brushing their teeth?

Oh, that's right. "We're from the government and we're here to help you."

I don't get it.

You nutcases got a gaggle of fellow nutcases to sign and petition and it went through the process up to the State Supreme Court - not just once but twice - and it was overturned. Twice.

So how are your "deomcratic rights" being ignored?

Hunh?

What part of the first comment don't you understand? The people very explicitly expressed their desire to VOTE on the subject. And the laws are being interpreted to mean that the people cannot do so. That "government" knows better. That "government" has the power to decide, despite the people saying they want to vote on this.

Oh, boo hoo hoo! You dumb libs didn't fill out the petition correctly (or something like that) and the State Supreme Court has over turned it. Twice. Happens a lot!

In this case the "big evil capitalist government" is doing what it should do - protecting the majority of us from a bunch of whiney, crybaby lunatics.

As someone said earlier "Buy bottled water!"

"Now the Federal Govt. says Fluoride in the water causes problems??"

Maybe the Federal Govt. will buy everyone bottled water. Let's see, 330 million people in the US, multiplied by a couple bottles each everyday, Yeah.. that works.

And if folks are drinking bottled water, what's the point of putting fluoride in the water?

What ARE they putting in the drinking water in Port Angeles???
