Increased Turnout at Juan de Fuca Festival
Numbers haven't been tallied yet (probably available later this week), but festival organizers say this year's Juan de Fuca Festival attendance exceeds that of previous years.
Festival executive director Dan Maguire said:
“There was way more people every night, every day. No question, there was way more people. It couldn’t have gone any better. The closing bands every night were just really great bands.”
Studio Bob and several downtown bars featured after-hours concerts as part of the festival. Maguire said:
“The after hours thing, that couldn’t have gone better. We’ll probably expand on that next year because it just went so well.”

All Great, and getting better.
And next week, you'll hear the national debt has been eliminated, we have full employment, there is no more pollution, and we are at peace with the rest of the world.
In all my years of living here, I have never, ever bought a ticket or a pass to the Juan de Fuca Festival, or attended a single performance. It's never had anything that appeals to me, and they seem to bring the same people back year after year.
And frankly, if I want to see Abby Mae or Deadwood Revival (or even Charlie Ferris) I can do that pretty easily any time of the year.
Dan Maguire ran the YMCA deep into debt, then "retired." I'm still waiting to see what he'll do with the Juan de Fuca. This year was the same snooze as years past, with no appeal to me.
Zzzzzz...
I actually thought there was too much of an increased turnout. Outside around Vern Burton was packed too full of people for such a little area. The Chamber room was so crowded I couldn't really enjoy the acts. With no ventilation it was probably hazardous. Honestly don't know if I'll be back because of that, although I had a good time once I got away from the Chamber.
Great event!
Bring back Dehli to Dublin and Rose's Pawn Shop to next years event.
The after hours features were great.
Great event!
For next year, bring back Dehli to Dublin and Rose's Pawn Shop --- they were great for dancing.
The after hours downtown was a very successful idea.
I liked Blame Sally. Didn't get to see Rose's Pawn shop but would like to have. I liked Fish & Bird from last year, sorry they didn't come back. I liked David Jacob-Strain but, like I said, the Chamber was a mess and I could only listen from far outside in the hallway. He should have been in another venue, though every act I saw there was sprawled out into the hall.
I think if JFFA is going to expand, it's going to have to re-think logistics and venues.
Whoa! The Juan de fuca Festival is coming up? Thanks for the tip. I been so busy working on my papers working for running for city council I almost forgot.
Jammin'! Thanks!
Wanna read a funny mystery by an author in Seattle?
See if you can find a copy of WHO IN HELL IS WANDA FUCA? By, G.M. Ford, it's your kind of book.
I've never been to the festival, I was out in the boondocks with the chipmunks. I know that it's popular with some but I question just how much money it brings in, not near as much as the fishing derby I dare say.
Anyway, I note with interest that whenever a casino shows up near a town that it hurts the rest of the business community. I'd never thought of that before, interesting.
The chamber was packed. People were standing in the aisles and sitting on the staircase across the hall. This room has limited exits. If there was a need for a fast exit. people would be unable to leave and possibly injured. Earthquakes are a real threat around here. Safety must be a consideration of this festival, not trying to pack more people into limited facilities.
