Fourth of July Port Angeles 2011

The Fourth of July parade starts at 6 p.m. It will go down Lincoln Street and then proceed the "wrong way" down First Street to Valley Street.

At 7 p.m. there'll be live music at City Pier: first Old Sidekicks; then Fat Chance.

Fireworks (at Francis Street Park) will start at roughly 10 p.m. The best viewing areas are the pier or the Waterfront Trail; or:

The Landing Mall, at the top level of the parking structure. There will be food (supplied by Smuggler's Landing), a beer and wine garden, and music by Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green.

Admission is $5; free for children 12 and under.

"O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"

Different topic, although it could be construed to be related to the national celebrations focusing on the US.

Most who read and post on this blog also scan the PDN. I can't help but noticing the dominant number of conservative/regressive people who seem to have nothing better to do in their lives but to post comments about articles on that site.

Why do I say this? Look at the times of the day these posts are submitted.

Now, I'll support anyones' right to say what ever they want, when ever they want to show the world their views. No problem.

It does seem to verify why nothing moves forward in Port Angeles. There seems to be two very polarized elements. One is a very right wing regressive type, the other a starry eyed idealist type.

Neither seem to be accepting the reality of what is actually going on in the area, or the nation. It is always strident rhetoric, but little "on the ground" reality.

Years come and go. Economic good times come and go. But Port Angeles keeps fighting itself, and getting nowhere.

With no change in sight.
