Which is More Important, Public Safety or Parking Enforcement?

Today's chalkboard message at Port Book and News is urging people to contact City Hall and ask for more adequate enforcement of traffic laws downtown. We have a new parking control officer to ticket anyone who stays in the same parking space for more than two hours, even though parking enforcement was the public's lowest priority in last year's survey that the City sent out.

Meanwhile the 20 m.p.h. speed limit downtown is a joke. Ditto the crosswalks. (The chalkboard didn't mention crosswalks; that's just my two cents worth.)

As the chalkboard message said, a speeding ticket costs a lot more than a parking ticket. And God knows what the fine is for barreling through a crosswalk while a pedestrian is in it. The City could provide a safe environment for downtown pedestrians and shoppers while simultaneously bringing in some much-needed revenue for their depleted treasury.

Maybe the Border Patrol could help out, they seem to have some free time. Set up a road block or too. There would be more parking and less traffic. Both problems solved.

The downtown police officer barrels down the sidewalks, into crowds, and even into a business on his overgrown motor scooter... I doubt public safety tops his list of priorities...

What depleted treasury? They're spending millions to fill a tank full of crap over at that Rayonier mill site. Doesn't look like they are too concerned about money, to me.

I don't speed anywhere, unless I have my head up my butt, so I don't care how many cops are about. And I don't pack donuts for bribes, or park for over two hours downtown, I never spend over an hour down there.

That radar unit sitting on First street is an idiot, said that we were doing 24 MPH but we had just started off from a traffic light and was only up to 15 MPH, the whole cluster of us.

I see that Reggies is a private club now, for a small fee you can become a member, and enjoy smoking while you drink in there.

But I'm not joining, stopped going there, no one interesting in there anymore.

Are there any reported injuries or official complaints?

I think someone was just enjoying some sarcasm, it's hard to detect at times.

Apparently not a lot of folks are impressed with the Segway Donut Cop.

You mean someone needs to complain before he gets the common sense not to drive that thing through a crowded building?

No sarcasm, I saw him do it. I couldn't believe it, but he went through anyway. And he races down the sidewalks and around corners. Thank God no one's been injured.

SOLUTION: Buy Segway's, join in on the fun, hahahaha

That statement is so wrong on so many levels I would not even know where to start.

I'm having fun simply talking, don't take such things so serious.
