Sixteen Clallam County Jobs Saved

During an emergency meeting of Teamsters Local Union No. 589, members voted to accept wage concessions in order to save jobs.  As a result, sixteen Clallam County employees who were scheduled to be laid off will keep their jobs after all.

The unheralded hero of all this is Dale Holiday. (So I guess that technically makes her a heroine.) She's the one who organized the union members to speak up to the Commissioners after an initial "No concession" vote from a handful of union members. Obviously, if at all possible, most of us would rather have our jobs saved, and the jobs of our friends and co-workers.

Now, the jobs have been saved, the County has saved money, and things are looking better. Now, over a dozen families will have a merrier Christmas this year. And now the general public won't be losing any services. It was a win-win-win situation. All down to Dale Holiday - thanks, Dale!

This is no time for anyone wanting more, especially those already doing well.

sounds like all you union members need to re-think whether or not the union is acting in your best interest and not just their own.

Good news about the jobs being saved, and the union members banding together to speak with a collective voice, rather than having the views of a few appear to be the views of the many.

You mean Mrs. Mania, don't you? Curious that she doesn't use her married name. They did get married, didn't they?

I have thoughts, these rich assholes flying in here on ever bigger planes and want the airport expanded aren't bringing us money on those planes, that's not how money is transferred these days, unless you are smuggling drugs to control the monkeys with.

In that case they are leaving with money, not bringing it here. Let them pay for their damn airport expansion instead of sticking us with it.

A working or retired man can't safely launch a boat here in the winter because the rich assholes don't care about the working man.

George Carlin was right.

Choosing to remain known by the same name that appears on your Ph.D. degree rather than be known as Mrs. X somehow equates to something improper?
Hello - this is the 21st century.

What a bunch of retards.

Yeah. Just fall for the presented rap. Fall lock step into what you are expected to do.

Who here is going to stop and say, "Why us?"?

The big corporations pay millions to have their media specialists and lobbyists create the issues (see "create the issues" as a standout!)that we see presented by bought-for politicians and the local unquestioning media.

So, we are presented with the living wage/health concerns of union members, the working members of our communities who spend their incomes at our local stores, as the big problem. But where in the PDN, where in the debates at the county commissioners' council, do we hear of the millions paid as "bonuses" to the upper "what-ever" percent?

What these folks get as "bonuses" would pay for ALL our employees salaries for the year, and then some. And what did they do to get all this extra cash? Is someone really going to stand up, and say these folks did not get paid enough, BEFORE these million dollar bonuses?

Was it not these "experts", the highly paid financial whiz kids who have been creating this country's financial policies for ?? years, that got us all into these troubles?

So, they get the millions in bonuses, while we all get years of "austerity budgets".

Yeah. The unions are the problems. Yeah, they paid into their pensions, and worked under agreed to contracts.

These guys getting the millions each in bonuses?

I'm just glad this resolution came about, no matter who was responsible for it. This outcome would not have been possible if Teahadist zealot (and hypocrite) Jim McEntire had been involved. He doesn't want to serve the public trust, he just wants to suck it dry for his own gain.

It doesn't matter if she has a doctorate or not. There is no sound reason a woman take her husbands last name. The choice is between her and her spouse. This is a non-issue and has nothing to do with politics. MYOB.

The County & City needs to save money and yet they really aren't interested from what I see.

Our Sheriff loves spending our money!!!! New boat anyone. How about the assualt vehicle we just had to have? And the list just goes on and on. And of course the attitude "Those rules don't apply to us" cost us even more money.

What's the cost of our County Fair? We all love the fair, but it costs the county quite alot.

How about that Xmas Tree that was put up in downtown, yes we like that too, but it sure did cost alot putting it up again this year.

Not True at all! The County Fair lives completely within its means. Fair fees and donations pay for the full cost, no taxpayer funds are used.

I think the County does a pretty good job, over all. But I agree the City spends money like there are no limits.

Did you read the article about City Manager at PABA last week? He spoke of the replacement of the Bridge at Race and Lauridsen, as the city moves to redirect HWY 101 traffic up Race and across Lauridsen.

Then there is that crazy $40 million "CSO" project we all are going to be paying for, for years to come.

And, the levies for the pool, the schools and now for Civic Field renovations and the Waterfront improvements?

Cutting back? Are you kidding? These guys are still finding new ways to increase your taxes.
