Monday Night Presentation on Tsunami Debris
Tomorrow night, 7 p.m. at the Peninsula College Little Theater, oceanographer Curt Ebbesmeyer will give a presentation on tsunami debris. The presentation is to inform people of what they can do, and what risks are involved, if they find debris on the beach from last year's tsunami in Japan.

I continue to find it interesting how there is virtually no discussion about the same thing happening to Port Angeles, and the Puget Sound communities!
Geologists have shown that huge earthquakes like the one that hit Japan last year have stuck the Pacific Northwest many times in the past, and that we are "over-due" for another.
Recently, Port Angeles got some kind of recognition for its' work in "tsunami awareness". How ridiculous! Even in the article about that recognition, there was NO discussion about the anticipated impacts in Port Angeles, or what residents are supposed to do.
One day, there will be workshops in Japan for people to learn about tsunami debris washing up on their shores from a huge event impacting the Pacific Northwest.
"Virtually no discussion"?
When I google "Tsunami" and "Port Angeles" I get 57,000 hits.
Substitute "Olympic Peninsula" for PA and you get 51,000.
WHAT'S UP WITH THAT evil Google algorythim! Why is the OLY PEN more important than PA!!
WWWHHHHHAAA!!! BOOO HOOOOOO!!!!
And when I Google "Port Angeles" and "hats," I get 57,606 hits.
What is your point? Because, like the original poster, I think there have essentially been NO meaningful discussions locally about this possibility - Google or no Google. We're just not ready.
Have not seen or heard any mention of the tsunami debris seen here being tested for nuclear contamination. Would be nice to know for sure if it is safe to handle before much more shows up.
