Dan McKeen Hopes to Become Permanent City Manager
Interim City Manager Dan McKeen, who replaced outgoing City Manager Kent Myers, has applied for the permanent position of City Manager. As of this past Saturday, there have been twenty-one applicants for this position.
Unlike some previous city managers who moved to Port Angeles in order to take the job of city manager, Dan McKeen has lived in Port Angeles for the past 26 years.

You could see this one coming a mile away. So far Mckeen has proved to be another rubberstamper for the Staff!
This is great news. The Council should call off its "nationwide" search now, and save whatever money they can from having hired the costly headhunter firm. Speaking of which, it seems as though one of the first things McKeen could do as permanent City Manager would be to re-think whether the City is receiving its money's worth from having a highly paid full time personnel director on staff. Why couldn't this search (and the one using outside consultants to find a new finance director) have been done "in-house"?
Port Angeles has way more serious problems than who is city manager!
Great, another unqualified applicant, we should change our by-laws, elect a Mayor, and have city council report to the Mayor instead of having a City Manager that reports to a bunch of unqualified popularity contest winners that we call a council.
Cherie Kidd suggested McKeen apply for the position of City Manager - that says it all right there!
And the worst part is that unlike the gruesome two-some, Madsen and Meyers, McKeen will not have a hissy fit and bail out after making a huge mess. No, he'll be with us for ten, fifteen years and then retire after making a huge mess.
"McKeen's overpayment of $11,431 for 237 hours of leave in 2007 was second only to the amount overdrawn by Ziomkowski, who was allowed to keep $32,867 in overpayments."
"McKeen was allowed to keep his overpayment because it was approved
by then-City Manager Mike Quinn."
Looks like the good old boy network is still humming right along.
"So far Mckeen has proved to be another rubberstamper for the Staff!"
Exactly. We can rest assured that nothing will change in Port Angeles for years to come.
Law Enforcement background, from here, worked here, knows how to do the job, apparently does it well, doesn't mind the pay cut, nice new mayor likes him...we have a WINNER!
Finally! A highly qualified candidate who won't be using this as a stepping stone to a better job someplace else! I hope the council has the wisdom to make the right choice.
The fact that the liberals are all in a flip-out because of Mister McKeen rells me that he's perfectly qualified for the job!

How have any of the comments on this topic had ANYTHING to do with "liberal" perspectives?
Talk about knee-jerk!!
McKeen will do just fine.
McKeen can't be any worse than the last few city managers. Somebody needs to check on whether Karen Rogers has established close ties to him, though. If so, then that would be a big demerit.
