Grand Opening of New Border Patrol Complex

Next Friday at ten a.m. there will be a grand opening ceremony at the Border Patrol's new facility at 110 South Penn Street.  Because of limited seating, the event is open “only to media with credentials and invited guests,”according to a Border Patrol statement.

"Grand Opening of New Border Patrol Complex."

Or, as Cherie Kidd would "think" of it, "photo op!"

Because the new BP HQ may be a complex, but Cherie's thinking sure isn't.

Changing the subject - sort of ---
to Porta Potties and attendees at special events ----
We keep hearing that the Sprint Boat races attract 8000 to 10,000 spectators, plus overnight campers. How is basic sanitation handled for such a large crowd? Chances are that these attendance figures are vastly exaggerated. But - just assuming they are correct, web sites that calculate the number of porta-potties to rent say that a minimum of 66 potties would be needed to serve 8000 people attending a six-hour-long event. If alcohol is served, even more potties would be needed. (Who knew there were such handy potty calculators available on the web!)
Perhaps somebody could ground-truth the Sprint Boat race attendance claims by counting the number of porta-potties supplied by the promoters?

Anon 11:56, don't forget there was supposed to be camping sites available for the attendees. In other words, some of them brought their own potties with their RVs and hauled the waste out to a dump somewhere off-site. That could throw a wrinkle into any potty calculations. And that was just about the weirdest sentence I've ever had cause to type.

I encourage everyone, since we aren't invited, to do this. If you happen to be driving by at the time of the ceremony, in order to show your support, play some "border music" really loud from your truck as you get your double, frosty, and chili. I suggest Celine Dion.

Seattle King 5 reported 4 minutes into the evening news tonight on the 50 acre bush fire (look it up, not kidding) in Syndey, Australia. Pictures and lots of emotion from the anchor. Traffic! Was started by a 12 year old. Had multiple ignition points. They didn't even report that! 50 acres! FIFTY!! Sydney!!! Makes me reconsider our local media and my high standards. Glad I live over here where we only dabble and observe world culture and most of us are not glued to our I-Phones - yet. They've lost their minds in Seattle. No wonder all the illegals flock to PA and Forks. Oh, duh...speaking of news...ABC/Muir tonight had a good segment on face recognition...when you are getting your frosty or quarter pounder ILLEGALS or WANTED people, or MMH patients remember your face will be being scanned SOON from the BP HQ! It's pretty dern accurate. Our tax dollars at work!

I wouldn't assume they are all there at the same time. Besides, men can do what men have always done. Sneak a piss just about anywhere.

Have to photograph everything these days as we all know.

Will they be offering tours once they clean up and the hookers have all gone back to Victoria?

So I see that Dan Morrison got beaten up at his own sprint boat event, apparently by a couple of drunken yahoos. Now who could have EVER predicted that this event would have attracted those kind of people? I'm shocked, shocked! And, to tie it back into the subject here, I have to note that having all those extra BP officers "on the ground" here didn't seem to help in this case. They're supposed to help local law enforcement - but only if it doesn't conflict with their nap time and restaurant roulette.

And if they don't, can I issue a tweet right before I die professing my weakness in a non-apolgetic way without being eviscerated?

@3:44 AM..

I'm guessing you're speaking about the attacks on the US embassies, and the "apology" embassy staff issued about the "misguided" producers of the deliberately insulting movie.

It was really weird to watch how Romney could twist that whole thing around into being, somehow, the Obama administration apologizing to the demonstrators!

The "apology" was made BEFORE any demonstrations, targeted SPECIFICALLY to head off the clearly expected negative reactions of the Muslims to the deliberately insulting movie, and was apologizing for the actions of the clearly misguided individuals who clearly knew their movie would foment violent reactions in the Arab world.

Can Romney actually read, and understand, or is he really so blindly reactionary?

It is like blaming a woman for being raped. Oh, that's right, those "rightists" do that, too.

Where are the loud expressions of outrage, and promises to "hunt down" those who clearly "Cried "FIRE" in the crowded movie theatre"; those that intentionally made and publicized a movie with which they clearly intended to insult and inflame, that resulted in the injury and deaths of Americans?

"HE SAVED US TONS OF MONEY!!!" Actually, not. By comitting the crimes in the first place, he already cost the tax payers tens of thousands in overtime, jailing, prosecution and indigent defense to this point. Pleading guilty only saved further spending by the county, but now starts the spending by the state prison system...

Good job PDN for allowing comments on the sentencing of a killer of sex offenders but not a pretty white girl who killed someone while driving drunk.

If Steim doesn't get released early she'll still only be 31 with another 30 or 40 years of drunk driving time to kill more innocent people.

Why would you want to know anything about it? You're only paying for it. Just shut up, pay your taxes and if you worry about an encroaching police state you obviously just have something to hide.

I mentioned this last week but it got caught in the discussion.

I actually saw a Predator B Drone taking off from Fairchild early in the morning on 9/12. It was slowly climbing heading directly parallel with Lauridsen. It was white and didn't have any pods under the wings.

Did anyone else see it?

3:51 PM, September 17, 2012
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I didn't see the drone, but I wouldn't be surprised. We (that is, we the taxpayers) are pumping an incredible amount of money into this project. State of the art facility, a tenfold increase in personnel, all the benefits that go with government positions, presumably new vehicles for all those new employees.

Maybe there's a lot going on I don't know about, but is all this justifiable? If it is I'll shut up. No one has been able to argue the case that it is beyond "they're here to help our police". Great, so our local police are abdicating to federal enforcers. I hate to come off as one of those "the black helicopters are coming to get us!" but I find that a little scary.

I'm also scared of what's to come. They've already tested road blocks. They've apparently got predator drones buzzing the town. How far is this going to go? And a majority of the people here are thrilled about this because they're scared and they "have nothing to hide"... yet.

Sigh. They're probably the same ones who thinks Obama have started taking all their guns.

In this article in The Hill from 2010 they say that there are 2 drones covering the northern border - probably more now.
http://thehill.com/homenews/news/101449-predator-b-drones-deployed-on-texas-mexico-border

I cannot imagine the amount of money that is pouring into this and for what.
Would love to see a cost accounting and justification for all the equipment and personnel in addition to the nearly $12 million facility.

As you see, virtually nobody cares. Most folks have just given up trying. They go to work (if they have a job), or sit home watching TV all day.

I could not find anyone to confirm the Predator Drone sighting. I did talk to a reporter at the PDN. Since it was on 9/22, I bet if flew in for the big grand opening and I was seeing it take off for it's base, probably in North Dakota

Available research indicates that the drone program for the Northern border is located in North Dakota. However, there is no indication that they regularly fly this far West. They reportedly can stay up for 24 hours.

Here is the best information video I could find on this program. Thanks Canadian Press!
