Federal Judge Dismisses Mountain Goat Claim

A federal judge has dismissed most of the lawsuit against Olympic National Park relating to Robert Boardman, who was gored to death by a mountain goat in the park two years ago.

The judge left only one claim remaining:  that the park staff failed to act quickly after the attack was reported.

Awww, I wanted a nanny state that would sanitize the park for us. Take out all the big bad bears and mountain lions and goats and them squirrels, not because they're dangerous but because I don't like them very much. I can sue because I don't like squirrels, can't I? I want to be a millionaire!! Also the park needs to install escalators because I don't want to hike through the woods.

It's nice to see Max stirring things up and keeping us, the citizens, not corporations in mind. We APPRECIATE it Max!!

The rest of you, and you know who you are, are TOOLS. It's embarrasing. So it's unethical to to get the public involved or speak one's mind when faced with insidious corruption?

It's like Zappa said, the older one gets, the more life becomes like High School. Which makes we wonder how low the quality of education around here IS. ...lol.

Seriously, we are led by morons. While Oregon readies it's series of charging stations for electric cars up and down I-5, and WA is not far behind, we install a giant furnace to burn insane amounts of wood. Upwind from Seattle. Morons.

Anonymous 1:27 AM, you need up the dosage of your meds. Show up at the next City Council meeting to hear yet more of Max's misdeeds ... did he really use a computer at City Hall to send all those naughty e-mails?

Whatta ma-roon!

Did no one on the council express outrage that Brooke Nelson took it upon herself to secretly read all of Max Mania's emails over a span of many weeks? She was spying not only on him but also gathering information about the people who dared to communicate with him. n addition to being a political dirty trick (why didn't she take her concerns to the city attorney or city manager instead of using this vigilanti method?) this smacks of an attempt to smear and intimidate anyone who dares to express their views to a public official.

Yes. Reading the crap being stated in the "complaints" against Max by Brooke Nelson, I wonder what country I'm living in?!

It would not be hard to list a bunch of quotes from famous and admired American leaders rallying citizens to get protest against their government and policies enacted.

But, in Port Angeles, the majority of the Council is as stated: "The Get Along Gang". "The Do Nothing Council".

They do what staff tells them, and understand little about what they vote on.

What a waste of space.

".. did he really use a computer at City Hall to send all those naughty e-mails?"

As someone who emailed to Max months ago, I can tell you he expressly stated to use ONLY his city email address, so as to support the policies of open government.

And "naughty"? When did it become "naughty" to communicate with ones' constituents using a publicly accessible medium?

Don't political figures send emails, letters and fund-raising requests to their constituents all the time, containing accusations against their political foes, and asking their followers to express their opposition in every conceivable way?

Brooke Nelson was acting, I am sure, on orders from her masters at Nippon, who were trying to quash any and all opposition to their biomess facility. Remember: This attempt at intimidation was not just aimed at Max, but also at all the people who "dared" to question the status quo. Their names and email addresses have also been "exposed" now. If Brooke had a problem, she should have talked with Max, or the mayor, or the city manager. Instead, she appointed herself private investigator, and spent months gathering proof that Max...tries to engage in communication with his constituents. None of what he did is a crime or unethical. What Brooke did is most certainly unethical, and very, very poisonous.

City emails are public records and anyone can request them so there was nothing sneaky going on with Brooke Nelson seeing them.

I support everything Max said in his emails and I'm glad he is fighting the entrenched attitudes and policies of the majority of the council, past and present.

This complaint seems like a result of someone feeling threatened by Max doing the job he was elected to do.

Anderson Lake closes again due to nerve toxin!

Just last Saturday was it, after opening it again, that State officials were mystified why no one was there?

People who work for the state = morons.

People who fish at Anderson = sort of smart.

After a city council or Board of Directors vote on a motion, and a decision is made, it is unacceptable to conspire after the fact against the decision. This type of behavior is unprofessional.

March 12, 2016. Port Angeles, WA

Giant Burning Orb Destroys Port Angeles downtown

(USP) The 6.5 earthquake yesterday near Victoria, BC was bad enough, but the tsunami that hit the north Olympic Peninsula was especially bad for Port Angeles.

SAM_the_LOGGER posted the first glimpse of what happened on youtube(tm).

Sam described the wave, that came from the east, slowly engulfing the factory on the spit. The giant furnace, which was running in full production mode as it always does, began to move towards downtown the second it was lifed off its foundation.

The large opening spewed smoke, and the smoke increased in volume as it made its way up Marine Drive churning all the way, with the hole pointing mostly and generally towards the sky.

The video does not show, however, if it was the salmon sculpture, or the "Welcome Boaters" to Port Angeles gateway arch, but the giant floating orb/furnace, was given a great spin by some large object, or, a big "shake" and began to spew fire. Whispers of concern heard along the bluff's edge tured into screams of horror. And an inappropriate laugh or two.

Marcus Weathervane, the only survivor from the downtown PA disaster, watched in horror (ironically the last thing he will ever see, even though he survived) as "dude after dude were literally vaporized as were the second stories of all buildings on 1st Street, by the giant blowtorch coming out of the floating giant orb, as it spun around, suspended in only ten feet of water. Ten feet of water we could have survived, but a giant orb with a fifty foot blowtorch coming out of it with it roatating all around like that incinerating people!!! NO WAY could we survive that!".

The usual bullies in town (some city council members from 2005-2009, for example)apparently still believe that character assassination, harassment, and intimidation are good ways to try to silence critics. I doubt that these tactics will work with Max. The attacks on Max and his supporters will only make them more determined to exercise their rights to free speech and peaceful assembly.

Great, it's the Madsen years all over again. Someone on the county objects to something (Kidd vs. Incubator, Mania vs. biomass) and members of the city start throwing a fit. Hey, here's a wild idea... why don't you clowns start acting somewhat professionally? Yeah, I'm looking at both Nelson and Mania here.

So why did Karen Rogers and her cohort Brooke Nelson put together this rather pathetic attempt to smear Max Mania? Well, aside from obvious ideological differences, I'd be willing to bet that Rogers is itching to get back into elected office, and will run against Mania next time. (You heard it here first!) My guess is that she's thinking that if they can trump up some sort of "ethics" complaint against Mania, then that will somehow cancel out Rogers own very real state ethics investigation as an issue.

But there are problems with this approach, Karen. One, Mania didn't actually DO anything other than write to his constituents and urge them to stay involved. No money was involved, no allegations of influence peddling. You, on the other hand, were just in it for the money, and for lining your own pockets, and were indeed found to have failed the ethical test.

And yeah, Mania might well live up to his name at times, and be a little goofy, but he seems to be genuinely honest and trying to do what's best for Port Angeles. But you, Karen, well, you clearly don't give a rats ass about anyone but yourself. And a vast majority of the people here know that, Karen, no matter how many photo ops you may arrange with some self-serving "volunteer" work you do.

I think this obvious smear fiasco has also likely demolished Nelson's hopes of getting reelected as well. Which would be a good thing. Clear the vipers out for good.

It's a shame to see Cherie Kidd go from being someone who at the very least didn't like Karen Rogers, to being someone who is doing Karen Rogers bidding. Cherie's being played for a fool and doesn't even know it. Sad.

Yes. I agree. Unfortunately, Cherie has has no clue on more than a few city issues, by her own admission.

The Clallam "conservatives" think they have some kind of momentum since they got McEntire elected, and have gone on a binge to push their power ever since.

Go for it. The more voters get to know you, the less they like you.

I just read the packet on Max. Took me an hour and I have a headache. He's being smeared bigtime. Everyone interested in what our lung cancer rates will be in this town in 20/30 years should go read it.

Prepare to gasp at first. But realize it's a lie. Love how it starts out with the heresay/lie and then just pretty much airs his inbox and what constituents care about. Shameful.

And don't email him, and God forbid don't say something like "now is not the time to buy", or your full name, email, etc. might end up on-line, with your phone number, and address, FOREVER.

The most important thing to remember when dealing with goats is to NOT give them what they want. Most obviously, food. But, and this is what people forget while out in the wild, don't let them catch you peeing. Or even if they smell your pee, that can cause trouble. Just pee out of their sight, and smell range. And don't let them see your outrage over their behavior, like if they get all in your pee. Just ignore it and keep walking. Because that is what they want, for you to react. If they perceive your behavior as being "anti-goat" and if you smell funny, directly or by association, or you are a threat to thier food source, be VERY careful.

The Karen Rogers theory is interesting…. Is this conjecture or fact-based? I think its safe to assume Brooke Nelson has neither the brains nor the gumption to initiate this action on her own. I simply assumed that the Rotten Real Estate Republicans smelled blood in the water and used Brooke (like they do all their candidates) by proxy to take advantage.

I don't have to waste my time reading the "packet" prepared by his detractors to know it is a smear campaign. Just seeing who is making the claims, and jumping on the band wagon clearly shows it is the same old crowd, with their same hypocritical crap.

They have no credibility, at all.

I'm not up on Cherie Kidd's beliefs and activities these days but I think it's a shame that she's wasted so many of her talents on politics.

Yeah, she's vain and self promoting of herself and family but I think inside she's a pretty neat gal, especially compared to Karen Rogers.

Billy, I agree. I like Cherie as a person. But she has clearly shown she is not a good leader for the town. She admits she does not understand much of the important issues she is asked/required to vote upon. Good intentions are great and all, but they don't always make for good city policies.

Staff have been leading this town into trouble for years now. We need a City Council that will listen to staff advice, but be independent enough to make decisions that are good for the whole community, not just the same "special few" that have been running this town for so long.
