Restoration of Elwha River Ahead of Schedule

A year after starting the removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams, the restoration of the Elwha River is ahead of schedule.  Barnard Construction Co., based in Bozeman, MT, expects to have the Glines Canyon dam completely removed by this spring.

As we put money into restoring fish habitat, we see others not doing quite so much!

"Just 100 cod left in North Sea
Overfishing has left fewer than 100 adult cod in the North Sea, it was reported."

Com'on, people, you're not trying hard enough! What's wrong with you? You've left 100 fish out there, where there once were billions.

Tea party cynicism...YAWN....

Stupid article. 100 is an "estimate", by one person, and the entire article, despite some "sciency" talk about radical fish depletion, which is happening NOW, is a button pushing cynical smokescreen by a lame european/tea party version of a paper with no author attributed to the article. Probably cut and pasted off of CNN International.

It's written to give INDEPENDENTS (uninformed knuckledraggers) and other people who have absolutely no clue about science something to disagree with.

YAWN

But we get it...all that money Obama has wasted on the Elwha, and where are the fish??!!

...moron...

@ 12:36AM

How do you figure the British newspaper "The Telegraph" is CNN, or somehow a mouthpiece for the Tea Party? I'm missing the connections.

Anyone can just Google "Disappearing North Sea Cod" and see this issue is real, and serious. They can see the topic has been "discussed" for years, but the industrial trawlers are still out there fishing them into extinction.

This is yet another example of how "business" people can "self regulate" so well.

Another article.. from the NY Times:

North Sea Cod Crisis Brings Call for Nations to Act. By CRAIG S. SMITH. The cod are disappearing from the deep gray waters that stretch to the horizon from this ...

If I remember correctly, the Elwha Dam projects were planned for, and funded before Obama ran for office.

"Krill, meanwhile, have declined by 40 to 80 percent, due primarily to rapidly warming temperatures."

Krill often are referred to as “keystone” species because they play such an important role for many marine systems. At Cordell Bank, krill are a major food source for salmon. Krill pigments also give salmon flesh its characteristic pink color. Rockfish, seabirds, and a myriad of lesser known species all depend on krill."

Ya wonder why the salmon are declining? Why the hatchery fish don't return in the expected numbers?

Fact:
Civilization wiped out the salmon in the UK (Northern sea), then moved to the East Coast of the US and wiped them out there, came to the West coast and are surely wiping them out here, now it's sights are on Northern BC and Alaska.

STOP

"The reason why krill population is decreasing is ocean acidification, and overfishing."

And,

"Krill also is used as a supplement for chicken and cattle feed."

Ah, yes. Wise use.

Todd Ortloff & radio station KONP are such an embarrassment. Today on a special day for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Ortloff features a Lakota (Plains Indian Tribe) tribal member who wrote a book about his ancestor Sitting Bull. It's hard to judge whether that choice of afternoon show guests was an intentional slap at local tribal members or just reflects ingrained narrow minded stupidity. Actually, it was probably both.
Shame on KONP and Ortloff.
I hope local tribal members realize that there are many people in the Port Angeles community who celebrate the removal of the dams and the return of the river to its more natural state. Today is a special anniversary of the beginning of a long overdue restoration process. A time to rejoice and reflect on society's duty to prevent such environmental and cultural crimes from ever happening again.

Obama ate all the krill. It is all Obamas' fault.

In fact, EVERYTHING is Obamas' fault.

Pick an issue, any issue. Anything bad can be traced back to something Obama did to cause it.

It's true. Obama caused my Aunt Phyllis' gout. Back in 1974.
