American Cruise Lines to Visit Port Angeles on April 15
American Cruise Lines' "American Spirit" will be nearly full when it comes to Port Angeles on April 15. American Spirit will be making ten visits this spring to Port Angeles and Port Townsend, and ten more visits to each city during the fall. The cruise ship is expected to dock at Port Angeles City Pier at 2 p.m., Tuesday the 15th.

At least the small cruise ship can dock at City Pier instead of in the midst of a dreary and more visibly polluted industrial zone. The shore tours whisk people away to Olympic National Park, though, leaving little time or incentive for passengers to linger in the downtown area.
The Coho brings many more people to Port Anhgeles, every week of the year. But, we don't seem to be able to do anything to take advantage of that.
These little crusie ships are a joke. But, they get the attention of the supposed civic leaders.
Linger in the downtown area? And do what? Watch the smoke pour out of Nippons' stacks? Watch the log trucks unload? Really?
...humorless bitches...sorry.
We all know people who moved here by choice. Therefore, it stands to reason, that some people who visit here might like it and have a good time.
The world is aging at a fast rate, the US even faster, and GUESS WHAT?! If old people like to live here, DUR, maybe geriatric tourism isn't such a bad thing? It's going to happen, sooner or later, here!
Plus, what a ridiculous and tiresome line, tons to do downtown. Go to the spit, sailor watch, or look at the purdy mountains and water, go to Country Aire, the hobby store, the music store, eat at New Day, or somewhere else, eat some fried chicken, pawn something, people watch, people watch while high (the boat is smoke free), climb the stairs, go to Safeway, get a coffee at one of the bazillion coffee shops, rent a car, take a bus, go to the park...any park, take your pick. Most of these visitors have never seen a place like this. This town is cool as shit! What's up with the eternal bitching? Wake up Port Angeles!!
We all know people who moved here by choice.
I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking of at the time.
Anon 5:33... Don't you know anything? Downtown is empty! Nearly every store is shuttered, their windows blocked by dry rotted boards! The only people downtown are the drug-crazed homeless and the even more drug-crazed teenagers! Mutants born from the radioactive pollutants slither across the street, feasting on the flesh of the few brave souls who go downtown! If you say otherwise you must be a spy from the corrupt city sent to brainwash our citizens into believing that all is well!! But, no, it is doomsday for our fair town! DOOMSDAY!!!
@Anon 5:33
Wow! What are you smoking?
Look around. People are leaving in droves, there are more empty storefronts by the day, it seems.
You may think the town is cool, and that tourists will flock here to go to the local Safeway, but the vacancy numbers seem to show most are just not buying it.
LOL! Yeah, you're right. "Most of these visitors have never seen a place like this."
Port Angeles is such a wonderful place, that the ferry service went from 3 boats running multiple runs each day, to one that runs half full part of the year.
Absolutely. People will spend hard earned money to come here, instead of the pretty city of Victoria, only 17 miles away. Yep. Sure. You betcha.
You go right ahead and invest your money in Port Angeles.
"Mutants born from the radioactive pollutants slither across the street, feasting on the flesh of the few brave souls who go downtown!"
Wow. Downtown just got interesting...
See. This will be Port Angeles' salvation. Zombies. Port Angeles needs to rebrand itself the Zombie Capital of the world, and redo everything in the Zombie theme.
Everyone will have to come to town in costume, and do the Zombie thing while there.
You know, like a theme park.
Hey, it is as viable an idea as the ones Port Angeles United is coming up with!
@8:17... Yeah, but you know a zombie crawl is going to be a Richard Stephens production of a Richard Stephens event starring Richard Stephens and MCed by Richard Stephens.
you are all haters

Look at the empty sidewalks downtown, think of the 24 or so "economic development" groups in the area that are sucking up around $5 million each year, and draw your own conclusions about where our problems lay.
Aren't you all full of love?
Don't forget all the "art" on our downtown streets!
Remember when the PADA said people from the ferry would see all the headless. armless rusty "statues" and come in flocks to explore downtown?
We're an "art friendly" town. Karen Rogers said so!
People here seem to think Port Angeles is the only waterfront town in the Pacific North west. They need to go investigate who else is trying to lure tourists to their town, and see what they have to offer.
If I was going to spend my vacation dollars on a waterfront town, I can think of a LOT of more interesting and attractive places than Port Angeles!
Fortunate for the passengers of this little cruise ship, they don't have to spend the night in any of the local hotels! Have you read the reviews? Horrible.
