I don't think Revitalize Port Angeles people and the other leaders in this town have thought through their getting everyone in town to stuff the ballot boxes by voting for themselves in that Outside magazine contest.
Assuming they win (because so few others are taking the silly contest seriously, to begin with), think of how stupid Outside Magazine is going to look! Port Angeles is a town on welfare. It is called "distressed" by government agencies because it is so poor and needy. Hundreds of residents rely on financial aid just to pay their utility bills. The city says it can't enforce traffic laws. The city says it is so broke, it can't pay for programs for the needy. The homeless shelters are closing facilities because there isn't enough funding to keep them running.
The great out doors? The city is facing hundreds of millions in costs to clean up the polluted harbor. Oil tankers are parked in the harbor, regularly, for repair. The hills are cut for trees, and log trucks run all day long. The town stinks when the wind isn't blowing, because of the mill?
And so much more.
So, how uninformed and stupid is Outside Magazine going to look as it declares Port Angeles "The Best Town Ever"? If their contest was ever credible, it sure will not be after this.
