Packed Meeting Over Mike Wiley, Jr.

The Port Angeles City Council Chambers were packed with about ninety people commenting on Mike Wiley, Jr.

As you probably know by now, Wiley was elected to the Clallam Conservation District board of supervisors last February. He defeated the incumbent, Don Hatler.

From my understanding, the main controversy is whether Wiley is a landowner, which is a requirement for serving on the Clallam Conservation District board of supervisors. He’s nineteen and goes to Peninsula College. After he was elected, his parents transferred 1% of their farm to him, making him a landowner.

So it comes down to whether he needed to be a landowner before he ran for the district.

(I haven’t been following this issue very closely, but it sure is bringing on lots of heated arguments. If I’ve omitted anything or gotten any details wrong, please correct me.)

The Commission is supposed to make a final decision when they meet in Silverdale on May 21st.

What say you?

I don't know Mike Wiley, Jr. But I do know Don Hatler. I know that he is a wealthy man with too much money to piss away while he pretends to be an ecologist.

Since he defeated the incumbent with numbers of votes, I think he should serve.

Somebody's tail got stepped on, and now they want to make a big deal about it.

Let him serve. When you have someone that young who wants to serve, consider it a breath of fresh air. We need young people to get involved.

A Commission is something that is a committee that is designed to make something dumber than the individuals in it. :-)

Can anyone find out why Joe Murray is seated when he isn't a landowner or a farmer? How does planting trees for Merril & Ring make you a farmer?

Ironic how Hatler's friends are saying that it was an illegal e-mail get-out-the-vote campaign against him when he did the same damn thing to Bob Forde two years ago.
Whining old pussy. This young lad deserves the seat.

bwa ha ha ha ha ha!The only farming I'm interested in is industrial farming. It's sad that a few malcontents, people as yet resistent to my powers of Evil Mind Control, are giving industrial farming such a bad rap.

Many, many people truly enjoy animals and vegtables that have been produced in a test tube or petri dish. And there's certainly nothing wrong with the vegetables that my friends and business partners at Monsanto have modified. Right now in my Evil Laboratory, I'm working on a carrot that resembles a sheep and tastes like a cabbage! A nearly complete meal all in one unit. Yummy!

Sorry to spoil the weather for the spruce up today. I'm testing out my Evil Weather Control Device!

toodle-oo!

As I said at the meeting, "garbage in, garbage out." The election rules come of an age where nobody cared much and budgets were low. You couldn't have wasted a Party chairman's time with it if you'd wanted to.

However, the situation on the ground has changed. It's now become partisan. It should be treated as a partisan office from now on.

In the meantime I say give the kid his turn. Hatler had one and he obviously didn't impress more than 60 people, so wtf?

This town is so anti new ideas that it's a wonder the calendar was allowed to change to 2000.
Let the kid stay. Mandate that anyone with more than 6 years in ANY position on any committee, in any elected office, in any part of government, club, association....get booted! That would MAYBE bring this town to its senses.
