Coffee and a Movie at Renaissance
Every Saturday at 3 p.m., starting today, the Renaissance — 401 East Front Street in Port Angeles — will be serving free organic fair-trade coffee while showing the documentary “Strong Coffee.”
The coffee is grown at Café Femenino, a coffee-growing co-op in the Peruvian Andes that’s wholly owned by women. “Strong Coffee” is the story of how these women got out from under the dominant business practices of that region, and built a prosperous business selling their coffee beans throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia.
Renaissance owner Lynn Keenan discovered Café Femenino at Seattle’s annual Coffee Fest, where coffee growers, roasters and café owners all get together.

I'm all for them figuring out a way to make it on their own. But I won't be helping them any, I buy cheap coffee and brew it weak.
And make my own mocha's in the morning, often with a shot of Peppermint Schnapps.
And then I take a nap, ha ha ha.
Hey Tom,
I guess you didn't think my previous comment about the "lesbian Socialists" was appropriate for this blog. No worries, I suspected I was being too sarcastic, and wondered how the Clallam Republican Party would react.
I hope at least YOU got a smile from the post.
Anon: I couldn't tell if your previous comment was tongue-in-cheek or not. I'm trying to find the right balance between having an open forum, and avoiding too much name-calling, and that comment seemed too far in the other direction.
We got Lesbian Socialists in Clallam County?!
There isn't much point in worrying about Lesbian Socialists or any of the current gay noise out there.
Or what I call not natural gays but psychologically messed up gays produced by society. I've had some good natural gay friends, these new age ones are just goofy and causing themselves problems.
Anyone that recalls the past failing of empires will recall that they were a part of it's failing.
The way I see it is that it's just another sign that the great American experiment is failing.
BTW, smart natural gays aren't the ones making all the noise, like always they lead quite lives and mind their business and don't get involved with all that mess, generally speaking they find these new age gays to be a pain in their sides.
Anyway, my camping trip was good, now I'm looking forward to the next one, it's always good to get out of Monkeyville and out into nature.
I just return to Monkeyville cuz I can't take all my tools and equipment out there to work on my projects, like making a temp regulated air inlet control for the wood heater I made for the camper.
What I was trying to say was that there is nothing we can do about any of it other than observe it with interest and do what we can with our own lives in order to keep them decent.
And I think that getting back to simple and basic living is helpful in that respect, at least it works for me.
"... generally speaking they find these new age gays to be a pain in their sides."
Thank goodness we got that cleared up. For a minute I was very, very worried. "natural gays", "new age gays" ... who knew?
"We got Lesbian Socialists in Clallam County?!"
Probably, but my comment was about "a coffee-growing co-op in the Peruvian Andes that’s wholly owned by women."
Knowing Port Angeles as I do, I was making a sarcastic comment assuming the more conservative elements in Clallam County (some of whom post here periodically)would view this as a bunch of "Lesbian Socialists" that are being supported by the local business. And, that as an overtly Christian organization, the Clallam Republicans should picket that business for supporting the lesbian Socialists.
Seems fitting and consistant with so many of the other stances they take!
Well, sitting on their hands and complaining about gays and calling the president the next Hitler-Stalin-Mao-Pol Pot is certainly a lot easier for the local Republican group than, say, being a watchdog for local governments. Maybe I missed it, but I've never heard the local branch take a stance on local issues, or even watch that the local budgets are handled responsibly. Although looking at the Republican congress under Bush, I no longer think republicans actually care about a balanced budget. And looking at what Fox News is peddling, I also don't think modern republicans care much about reality. So the local group will stick to their newsletters and their vague teabag parties and blaming everything on gays or the president or the liberal media. Then they'll pat themselves on the back and say "good job!", put the blinders on as they pass through Port Angeles on the way home.
I can't tell Republicans from Democrats...they all spend money like it's on fire. A politician is just a politician, now. No difference between them but the talking points. They're all out to screw the rest of us.... and the Republican Party is just a beer drinking club, just like the Democratic Party. None of them mean squat, anymore
