Clallam Transit Fare Increase

Clallam Transit fares will go up by 50% tomorrow. Day passes will go from $2 to $3. A one way trip from Port Angeles to Sequim or Port Angeles to Forks will be $1.50 instead of $1. The base fare for adults will go from 75 cents to $1. For disabled passengers, people over 65 and people 19 and under, the base fare will be 50 cents.

Peninsula College students will get a better deal. Starting this fall, they can get a pass that's good for all routes.

Don't Peninsula College students get this pass whether they want it or not? Seems like a good deal for Clallam Transit. The students who ride the bus get a pass for a lot less a quarter. But those are probably a minority, and the every student now pays extra for their tuition. Win-win for Clallam Transit, kind of sucks if you don't take the bus. But, you know, college tuition is so cheap these days, the students can all afford it! Walking ATMs, that's all students are really.

Get rid of Clallam Transit and lower our taxes. Buy a damn car.

How about the City claiming their upcoming 1.2 million deficit is due to increased District Court costs and reduced sales taxes. Maybe they should look at the payments they have to make on $37 million worth of long term debt and $7 million of short term debt?

"Get rid of Clallam Transit and lower our taxes. Buy a damn car."

Right. Because that would really, really help us in so many ways. We could stick it to poor people (which would make it difficult for many people to keep their jobs). We could also stick it to kids (who are too young to "Buy a damn car"). We could have more traffic on our roads (which would cost us more in road maintenance over time). We could have more air pollution (and higher rates of asthma and other associated illnesses). With all those extra cars on the road, we'd probably have more accidents (which would cost our hospitals and police more money). And, perhaps most importantly, we'd be able to clearly demonstrate to any business or individual who might be thinking of moving or starting a business here that we are indeed proudly and loudly out of step with the entire rest of the country, if not the entire world.

But, yes, it WOULD save you a few dollars a year in taxes, so it would all be worth it, right?

Right?

Right?

Well, what about the cost of their entire staff getting a 3% COLA when the cost of living was actually negative for the last year?

Awww, Watcher, You're no fun at all!

Clearly, the ONLY thing that matters is the money in MY pocket. You REALLY want me to care about anybody elses' problems? Move to Seattle, or San Francisco if you're concerned about things other than the money in MY pocket I'd see from getting rid of Clallam Transit.

Oh Max, are you back posting under your "Watcher" alias again? Ha ha.

At least this time you're not trash talking a fellow council member or some department manager.

Someone please hire Max so he doesn't have all this extra time on his hands!

Just to give some context on the first post here: While it's true that all Peninsula College students get the pass whether they want it or not, the students themselves voted to add the fee. Clallam Transit and the college did not impose it on them. Of course, students who weren't around for the vote (or who didn't vote) didn't end up having a say, but with gas prices what they are, the decision potentially saves students who elect to take the bus some money.

2013 can't come soon enough! Fortunately we'll never have to live in Max Mania's hippie-San Francisco-tax-and-spend utopia.

Why is it that someone who can't hold a job is on the city council????

Another hard on for Mania. Well, ok, maybe you could name some of Mr. Mania’s “Tax and spend” initiatives… Was it Max who decided to SPEND our TAXES on Harborworks? So did Max SPEND our TAXES on Exceltech so he could WHORE his way into a job? Just how much of our TAXES did Max spend on the Business Incubator? …Yeah, I thought so.

Just to point out...Yes, the college students voted to put this fee/system in place. The college students who are furthering their education. The college students who represent our future. The college students who understand that public transit is a part of any modern society.

Selfishly and short-sightedly focusing on your own interests is destructive. No kids in school? Screw the schools! Never had your house catch fire? Screw the fire department! And, of course, we really all would be better off building our own roads, right?

Right?

This is the same kind of thing I had at my alma mater. It was actually a pretty nice setup. Show your student ID and ride free. It saved a LOT of congestion on campus, freed up parking spaces for new buildings or lawns to study or play frisbee on and I didn't have to worry about my car. Only thing I had to worry about was being packed onto the bus like sardines, which happened every morning if the bus had room for us at all. Fortunately, I learned the trick: bring my hockey gear with me. People tend to give you a wide berth if you're carrying a hockey stick, don't know why. Ha ha.

Of course, this is all assuming that Port Angeles and Peninsula College will grow enough to warrant this. I personally am having my doubts these days.

No kidding! As I drive around and see all the vacant buildings, the "for sale" and "for rent" signs that sit there month after month, it is hard to see any real future for the town.

And then you see Head of the Clallam Republican Party/Teabagger AND real estate agent representing the Chinook motel bad rapping his OWN clients in the regional press!! Wow!

And, fellow real estate agent, working for the same company now listing the property the city condemned while he was on the council, Larry Williams. And wasn't Karen Rogers husband ALSO working for Carroll Realty?

I'm sure everything is on the "up and up", but it sure LOOKS fishy.

They promote the city developing that Rayonier site, when they can't sell what even THEY say is a highly valuable commercial property (the Chinook Motel property).

Spend taxpayers money, so that they can profit?! Talk about a "tax and spend utopia"!!

So Max isn't a "grocery clerk" any more???

Well, don't worry. Max will find a job by 2013 so he can be "employed" again. Just in time for the election!

So funny: we have a kept man on the city council!!!

This troll that keeps going after Max Mania is SO transparent. Following the Republican model/tactic they are using on Obama, to undermine his support. As a previous post pointed out, the "tax and spend" tag fits WAY better on Manias' predecessors, those supported by the Republican real estate folks.

It is just sad to watch, and only serves to further discredit those that spout this trash.

Keep at it. We'll know that much more clearly who NOT to vote for in 2013.

We need someone on the city council that can hold a job, not some "writer" or "trained baker", not some jerk being kept by the wife like a poodle.

What does Kaj Ahlburg do for a living?

11:59 AM, July 05, 2010

"What does Kaj Ahlburg do for a living?"

He WAS a Wall Street financial guy working for a company that had questionable dealings. He fled New York after the 9/11 events (unlike most New Yorkers who stayed to support and rebuild their community in those difficult times), and moved to Port Angeles.

Now he is the golden boy of the local conservatives. Yeah, what a guy. Run and hide when things get bad in your community. Is that the "conservative" way?

Don’t get me wrong…. I believe Mr. Ahlburg to be a lying ratbastardrepublican carpetbagger maggot who is here to exploit the divisiveness and disorganization of this second rate burg for fun and profit (his own) -Hey, it worked for Karen…

That having been said, I think your indictment of him as somehow suspect because he left NY after 911 is a low blow. If he was working for a “company that had questionable dealings”, then please state the company, the questionable dealings, and Mr. Ahlburg’s part in them. Lies , half truths, and empty accusations is the “conservative way” .

I believe republicans could best serve their country ground up and served as dog food, but I also believe it’s a mistake to sink to their level in ANY situation. JMHO.

This is SO typical of "the loyal opposition" in Port Angeles. They can't offer ANYTHING constructive, and cannot engage in any meaningful conversations. All they do is attack people they don't like with these childish "insults".

If this person, who has taken to clogging up the forum with their childish personal attacks on Max Mania, has ANYHING specific to point out about votes Max Mania has made on the council, or how THEY would do things differently, given the circumstances faced by the council, then SAY SO.

This is another facet of the Republican approach to "politics" in America. Don't offer alternatives so that voters can consider the clear merits of their philosophy, and have a clear choice. No, they engage in "tactics" to confuse. Block votes altogether. "Oppose" because of party affiliation, instead of the merits of the proposal. Engage in personal attacks.

ANYTHING other than actually, clearly discussing the issues facing this country.

And here, ANYTHING other than offering viable alternatives. "Tax and spend utopia" was cited as a Max Mania fault, until it was pointed out all the taxing and spending was done by Dick Pilings' fellow realtors and fellow travelers on the previous council.

Oh well, this IS Port Angeles.

I guess yer new in these parts?

Just funnin' ya.

Look back here to the posts about Kaj when he was appointed to the Harbor-Works board, Jan. 25, 2010. There was quite a bit about him working for Dillon, Read and Company, and more.

You will also note he is on the list of plaintiffs filed against Obamas' health care programs. One of only two "individuals".

Someone might ask Kaj what he did while working for Dillon Read. That company has quite the interesting history (from Google):

""Dillon Read & Co. Inc. & the Aristocracy of Prison Profits" is a case study in "tapeworm economics" and how the tapeworm game is played, written by a former partner and member of the board of directors of Dillon Read whose life and business were intimately affected by the events described. Through this one case study we see the patterns of the dominant business model operating in our politically managed economy today. We see how private investors arrange for new laws which are contrary to societies' best interests. With the help of revolving doors between board rooms, law firms and high level government positions, large government contracts and purchases are engineered which increase the value of private stock investments. Those who enjoy rich stock market profits then funnel large political contributions to the political parties and politicians who engineer the laws and contracts."

Wow! And he moved all the way from NYC to Port Angeles? Port Angeles doesn't seem to be in the same league as NYC. It is about as far away as you can get from NYC, and still be on this continent.

Interesting.
