Swain's Outdoor in Sequim will be Closing
They will be closed by the end of July.
This does not affect Swain's in Port Angeles or Port Townsend.

I really wish the county would not have allowed Wal-Mart to take over the entire peninsula - Port Angeles AND Sequim. It was a really bad move.
By doing that, they have made sure competitors do not come into the area and have assured the destruction of local businesses.
They have also limited the appeal to employers (such as NOAA) relocating here.
Wal-Mart is just depressing.
Sorry to see Swains go. They had a bad location and it was unfortunate they went to outdoor goods only.
Only been in there a few times, but it was an interesting store. But I still prefer the Swains here, I go there all the time.
...it's poor management! lol
Don't blame everyone else...look in the mirror. Why spend more there for cheap Chinese crap when I can go to Wal Mart and buy cheap Chinese crap cheaper?
Walmart isn't all bad, you just have to figure out how to deal with them. When I had my business in Utah a new Walmart was built in a town 30 miles away (The town I was in was too small for any chain store).
A smart business monkey closed his two western stores (in two different towns) and built a new store next to the new Walmart and did great. Walmart isn't everything to everyone, for example their hardware line sucks, and the automotive department isn't that great.
You just have to figure out what business you can have that isn't competing with them.
I don't think I've ever been in the Sequim store.
Do they sell rancid oil popcorn, too?
One of the things I've constantly pointed out to people is that most of the family-owned stores that Wal-Mart drives out of business *deserve* to be driven out of business. They're closed half the weekend when people have time to go shopping, they're closed in the evenings when people have time to go shopping, their inventory typically has dust on top of its dust it's so stale and musty, and their customer service sucks because they've been the only business in town selling XYZ for so long that they've forgotten what it takes to compete with someone else selling XYZ. It's just a shame that it takes a big box coming in to get rid of the losers, but like BBC said (what, I'm agreeing with BBC?!) the smart business owners will compete on quality and service and win against Wal-Mart. It's the losers who, well, lose.
