Fire at Parker Paint
There was a fire at the Parker Paint building, 201 East Front Street, early this evening.
The fire broke out in the paint mixing area on the first floor. At 6:30 p.m., firefighters were still at the scene, with no traffic being allowed on Lincoln Street north of Front.

I hope that it isn't too serious.
They have had more than their share of grief in that building, with the broken water main flooding through there a few years ago, and causing the first Kokopelli to go out of business in the process.
I hope damage is minimal.
I saw the firefighters down there when I was walking to the pool. I hope things are okay at Parker Paint, and that they can go on with regular business soon. Glad no one was hurt.
In this economy, any disruption could hurt...prayers for the folks who own the business and work there!
the "first kokopelli" went out of business because they didn't get enough customers. That was the same reason other businesses went out of business in town that year.
Meanwhile, the newspaper says Parker has been there 12 years, why do I remember them there 15-16 years ago:?

Well, you read that in the Peninsula Daily News didn't you?
I have bought paint there many times over the years and all I can say is they are very lucky the damage was not total. It is an old wood construction building.
Hope they can get back on their feet soon.
Bought paint there back in the early 80's but I think it was a different owner. Maybe the 12 years they mentioned is with the current owner only.
The building that houses Parker paint is a very old building. When they were "sluicing the Hogsback" to fill the streets downtown, it was a paint, wallpaper and signshop owned by Johnson and Bork.
One of the later sign painters there was Thomas Guptill who I believe painted the murals on Front street in the old miniture golf course in the basemant of what is now the Pedal and Pack bike shop. Bill Bork was the owner of the paint store before Parker. He grew up in that building as a kid. There is a great picture of the building in an old photo of the pipe coming down front street before Lincoln street. I believe that is the oldest remaining building in PA. I think the Family Shoe store is the second.
Glad they were able to save the building tho....good job firefighters.
didn't Parker Paint (the whole company) recently sell to a Canadian company? The quality of their paint has been slipping...too watery. Prices are up for other things too.
Jackson: the paint store building was replaced by the current structure in 1922. The previous building was wood structure and this one appears to be brick. It is the longest running business in the same location, as the article said, but not the oldest building.

You are correct. Thank you for the clarification. I need to go back and study up on my downtown history..........:)
